Salem
— Officers responded to the 900 block of South Avenue at 4:09 a.m. Monday for a reported residential alarm. Officers spoke with the occupant who advised that everything was okay.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Third Street at 10:33 p.m. Sunday to assist Perry Township officers in the 100 block of West Third Street. A vehicle was stolen from the township and was reported to have been in the area. The vehicle was not located.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 8:49 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. She advised that she had come to see her son, who lives with his father, and that he would not permit her to visit with the juvenile who was being yelled at. Officers checked on the juvenile who was determined to be okay and the caller was ultimately permitted to visit with the child for several minutes. The child elected to leave with his mother.
— Officers on patrol in the 1000 block of West State Street at 8:36 p.m. Sunday observed a vehicle commit multiple traffic violations. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke with the occupants, finding that the passenger had an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office, and K-9 Ferro was deployed and indicated to the presence of narcotic odor coming from the vehicle and contraband was located. Officers took the passenger, Bambi Woodworth, 42, Salem, into custody and transported him to the Columbiana County Jail. The driver was issued a written warning for the traffic violations.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Whinnery Road at 8:35 p.m. Sunday for a report of a missing 4-year-old juvenile. The caller advised that she sent her son to his room but then was unable to find him anywhere. As officers were searching the area the caller advised that she located him inside the house.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 7:31 p.m. Sunday regarding a child custody issue. They advised that her husband, who was living elsewhere, had their young son with him but wouldn’t allow her to see him. She was advised that the matter was civil, and she would need to contact the courts.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Seventh Street at 5:52 p.m. Sunday for a report of telecommunications harassment. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department regarding a report of fraud at 4:26 p.m. Sunday. The person advised that someone had been making unauthorized withdrawals against his bank account through Meta. The charges, which began in March, were only $2 initially and hadn’t been noticed as a result but have since increased to $20 which caught their attention and have totaled approximately $300 so far. The person had already notified his bank, but they needed a police report for the fraudulent charges to be reimbursed.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 12:36 p.m. Sunday for a report of a woman heard yelling and arguing with another person. When officers arrived, they were able to hear the woman yelling from inside the residence and advised her of the complaint and to stop yelling.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Third Street at 12:03 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. The caller advised that the man in question is not taking medications and acting manic. Officers located the man, who was able to answer all questions, and did not observe any behaviors at that time forcing the man to be seen at a medical facility.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West 10th Street at 3:50 a.m. Sunday for a report of a chimney from an abandoned residence falling and landing in the caller’s driveway next door. Officers found approximately 20 bricks from the chimney of the property lying in the driveway with no damage to the caller’s property. She was advised that the report would be forwarded to the housing department to be addressed with the owner of the residence.
— Officers responded to the area of Vine Avenue and East Sixth Street at 1:20 a.m. Sunday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that a man and woman were arguing outside, and it sounded like the woman was in distress. Officers spoke with a dating couple who advised that they were having a disagreement and nothing physical had taken place. They were advised to keep the noise down.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Broadway Avenue at 11:53 p.m. Saturday for a reported fight. Officers spoke with the owner of the bar who advised that a woman was sitting and spitting on people. Nobody wanted to pursue charged and the woman in question was criminally trespassed from the property.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of East State Street at 11:54 p.m. Saturday to attempt to locate a reckless operator. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle in question.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East State Street at 11:05 p.m. Saturday for a report of people possibly urinating in public. Officers checked the area and spoke with two women, issuing a waning and they left the area.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Park Avenue at 10:14 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person with a warrant. Officers spoke with the woman, Bobbie Doss, 46, Salem, who was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of West Pershing Street at 10:06 p.m. Saturday a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that it sounded like someone was trying to get into the residence. Officers checked the basement and found everything to be normal. The caller was advised to call back if they heard anything.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 8:32 p.m. Saturday regarding a prior incident. They were advised that the officer handling the situation would contact them.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 7:27 p.m. Saturday for a report of child endangering. The caller advised that they witnessed a man kick a small child, who left the area prior to their arrival. Officers obtained video footage of the incident and did not view anything which appeared criminal while reviewing the footage.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Pershing Street at 7 p.m. Saturday for a report of a possible theft. Officers advised them that they would look into the person in question to see if he took clothing.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Shady Lane at 7:05 p. m. Saturday for a report of telecommunications harassment. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 5:38 p.m. Saturday for a report of a possibly intoxicated person riding a motorcycle. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate a motorcycle matching the description given.
— Officers on patrol in the 800 block of East State Street at 5 p.m. Saturday located a vehicle being driven by a person without a valid license who had been involved in a report of receiving stolen property out of the Sandusky Police Department. Officers spoke with the occupants and the owner of the vehicle gave officers consent to search the vehicle. During the search officers located the stolen phone in the vehicle under the passenger’s seat and contacted the Sandusky Police Department to confirm that it was the correct phone. Officers took both the driver Michael Mcelroy, 49, South Amherst, and Sheila Vanmeter, 28, South Amherst, into custody charged with receiving stolen property.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East State Street at 3:54 p.m. Saturday for a report of stolen property. When officers arrived, the vehicle was not there and the people in question were gone.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Rose Avenue at 3:18 p.m. Saturday for a reported child custody dispute. The mother reported the father took the child but does not have custody. Further investigation showed the parents were married when the child was born and are not legally divorced yet. The mother’s family was also concerned for the well-being of the child and the mother was advised to contact an attorney regarding custody of the child due to officers not being able to force him to return the child.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Pershing Street at 2:45 p.m. Saturday for a reported distraught person. Officers were advised that a person came to the business due to being upset over work done to their vehicle and began yelling and was asked to leave. Officers spoke with both parties, and they came to an agreement that the person would return the next business day to have a vehicle looked at.
Leetonia
— A juvenile turned a flashpole found near the village post office at 7:19 p.m. Aug. 3 into an officer on routine patrol.
— Suspicious activity was reported at 1 a.m. Aug. 2 in the 100 block of Oak Street. Upon arrival of backup from Columbiana, everything was found to be okay.
— Alexa Garr, of Youngstown, was cited at 5:30 a.m. Aug. 2 near state Route 344 extension for wrongful entrustment for allowing an unlicensed driver, Daurrell Miller, to drive her vehicle. Miller also was cited for marked lanes and driving under suspension. The car was towed.
— A suspicious vehicle was reported at 5 a.m. Aug. 3 outside Leetonia Mennonite Church. The building was found to be secure with no abnormalities.
–Police performed a welfare check at 11:03 a.m. July 31 in the 200 block of Oak Street.
–Janet Kleinknecht was given a warning for her loose dog at 11:25 a.m. July 28 in the 300 block of Anglemyer.
–A female was transported to Salem emergency room, after expressing suicidal tendencies earlier in the day at 10:46 a.m. July 29 in the 200 block of High Street.
–A female reported at 5:39 p.m. July 31 that someone vandalized her mailbox in the 100 block of Bears Den Road.
–Shortly after midnight on Aug. 1, police investigated a running vehicle in the library parking lot that was trying to find directions to Boardman. After directing them accordingly, the officer told them that they were trespassing after hours and needed to leave.
