Sheriff’s Office

— Deputies responded to an address on state Route 9, Hanover Township at 12:57 a.m. Tuesday for a person having a mental health crisis. Deputies spoke to the person and family members and it was decided they should go to the hospital for an evaluation. The family advised they would transport the person to the hospital.

— A man on Lowmiller Road, West Township, requested deputies at 8:50 p.m. Saturday to remove a female relative who just got out of prison and was living at the residence. Deputies spoke with both parties and the man was advised of the eviction process.

— A loose cow was reported at 8:08 p.m. Saturday in the road in the 4600 block of Depot Road in Butler Township. Deputies were able to get the cow back into its fenced area.

— A woman on Boston Street, Salem Township, reported at 5:01 p.m. Saturday her soon-to-be ex-husband from Youngstown arrived at her residence and put some of her belongings on the property and then left in his vehicle. She has told him multiple times to stay off of the property where she lives with a relative. The relative also said she doesn’t want him on the property. A deputy spoke to him by phone and told him to stay off the property.

— Deputies were dispatched at 3:40 p.m. Saturday to Carmel Achor Road, Middleton Township, for a domestic violence report. A refusal was signed.

— A deputy was dispatched at 6:15 p.m. Friday to the area of the bike trail and the covered bridge on Eagleton Road, Salem Township for found property. The property was transported back to the sheriff’s office for safekeeping.

— A man on Westville Lake Road, Knox Township reported at 6:14 p.m. Friday that he wanted a woman to move out of the other residence on his property that he rents to her. The eviction process was explained to him.

— A deputy was dispatched at 11:57 p.m. July 29 to Wilson Street, Salineville, for a report of a juvenile in a mental health crisis. The person was taken to the hospital for assistance.

— A domestic dispute was reported at 6:55 a.m. July 29 on Carmel Achor Road, Middleton Township where parties were arguing over keys locked in a vehicle. The caller was complaining that she had to go to work and was now late. She claimed the spouse would not help her get into the vehicle after she had locked the keys in the vehicle the night before. She said they shoved one another. The spouse denied any physical confrontation and neither had any obvious marks or injuries. Neither wanted to press charges and a refusal was signed.

Highway Patrol

— Lee Boswell, of New Springfield, was cited at 1:38 p.m. July 30 in Fairfield Township for failure to yield. Boswell was westbound on Heck Road and stopped at its intersection with state Route 7, when he pulled out in front of Brendan Dolan, of Columbiana, and was struck.

— Christopher Rimoldi, of East Palestine, was cited at 1:50 p.m. Aug. 1 in Rogers for failure to maintain an assured clear distance, after striking a vehicle driven by David Noll, of Jeanette, Pa. From behind.

— Pamela Benner, of Kensington, was cited at 11:07 a.m. July 31 in Center Township for failure to obey a traffic control device, after her vehicle was struck on the side by Carli Kriner, of Alliance near the intersection of state Route 45 and Adams Road.

— Jaden Rogers, of Hammond School Road in Wellsville, was cited at 4:54 p.m. July 26 in Yellow Creek Township for failure to obey a traffic control device, after failing to yield to Damian Shaw, of East Main Street in Salineville.

— Conner Lowdermilk, of Carrollton, was cited at 11:36 p.m. July 21 in West Township for failure to control, after driving off the side of Knox School Road while southbound.

Salem

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday regarding a domestic dispute. The person advised that after officers had left their residence from a prior call, he had been confronted by the other man in the household and forced to leave. The man was advised he could return and chose to do so. Officers responded to the 400 block of South Ellsworth Avenue and advised each resident of the home that it was time to go to their separate rooms and leave one another alone for the night or face charges if officers had to return.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 2:18 a.m. Wednesday for a report of an intoxicated person making suicidal comments. Officers spoke with the person and clarified they had no intention of harming themselves or others and advised the caller to contact them if anything was needed.

— Officers spoke with a person getting into the dumpsters behind Giant Eagle at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday. The person was advised to keep out of the dumpsters and not to return.

— Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 10:46 p.m. Tuesday for a display of plates violation. Officers advised the driver of the issue.

— Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Dodge Drive and West State Street at 10:58 p.m. Tuesday for multiple moving violations. After speaking with the driver, the fire department responded and checked the driver for any medical issues. Officers determined that the driver was not impaired by any legal or illegal substances and could not legally stop them from driving.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 9:18 p.m. Tuesday to speak with a person about being harassed. Officers had the caller block the person and advised them that if the issue persisted to contact officers so they can direct them to stop.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 8:22 p.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that a person who had threatened him in the past was riding up and down the road. Officers spoke with the man who advised he travels that way to and from his girlfriend’s home.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Perry Street at 4:442 p.m. Tuesday for a report of debris in the roadway. Officers found where a person had been mowing the yard and blown the grass onto the street. Officers spoke with the person who advised they would clean it up.

— While investigating a prior incident in the 500 block of Granite Avenue at 3:12 p.m. Tuesday officers observed a small dog that appeared to need medical attention. The dog was a small puppy in poor health and living conditions, and the humane officer was provided with information for the animal to be checked on.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Granite Avenue at 1:22 p.m. Tuesday to assist the Columbiana County Drug Enforcement Task Force in the execution of a search warrant. All evidence was maintained by the task force.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of Newgarden Avenue at 11:54 a.m. Tuesday for a report of trespassing in a condemned residence. Officers spoke with the person in question and determined that they were allowed to be on the property.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of Arch Street at 11:16 a.m. Tuesday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that one of the tenants had moved out and they were there to check on the utilities.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 10:18 p.m. Monday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised that her doorknob had possibly been damaged while she was gone. Further observation showed no damage was caused to the doorknob and the locking mechanism had been stuck but was put back in working order.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 8:53 p.m. Monday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that a man who had stolen several items that morning had returned to the store. The man was detained and after properly identified was trespassed from the store. Contact information will be forwarded to the initial responding officers from the theft and a warrant will be requested.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of North Cunningham Road at 8:50 p.m. Monday for a report of a distraught person. Officers found that the matter was a misunderstanding of the business’ billing policy, and the matter was resolved.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of West Pershing Street at 8:39 p.m. Monday for reported suspicious person. Officers spoke with the person in question and determined that everything checked okay.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Perry Street at 7:55 p.m. Monday for a report of breaking and entering. All occupants were evicted from the residence, which was condemned by the city, and a previously evicted person was inside the residence. Officers took the person Jodi Johnson, 27, Leetonia, into custody charged with criminal trespass and transported them to the Columbiana County Jail without incident.

— Officers responded to a business in the 700 block of West State Street at 6:41 p.m. Monday for a report of theft. Officers were advised that a man came into the store with a backpack and appeared to have taken several items. Officers collected information and spoke with all parties involved and advised the management to advise them in regard to pursuing charges.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 5:42 p.m. Monday for a reported water line break. Officers confirmed the break and advised the water department.

— Officers on patrol in the 600 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 5:22 p.m. Monday for a reported juvenile problem. Nobody was located in the area.

— William Kindle, 33, Salem, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after his eastbound vehicle on West State Street struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Bruce Culler, 75, Louisville, at 4:56 p.m. Monday. No injuries were reported.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of North Howard Avenue at 3:10 p.m. Monday for a speak with officer report. Officers spoke with the humane officer who advised that an unknown man had gotten out of his vehicle and started to yell at her while she had been attempting to catch a dog. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle in question.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 2:07 p.m. Monday for a report of menacing. The caller advised that the person in question had made vulgar comments toward her. Officers advised that the comments made were not considered a threat but that they would document the incident.

— Officers responded to the 2200 block of Painter Road with the fire department at 1:45 p.m. Monday for an open burning complaint. Officers and firefighters found it to be a large brush fire and advised the people who were clearing the land of the burning ordinances inside the city. The person advised that they would use the heavy machinery to smother the fires.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Morgan Court at 1:07 p.m. Monday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised that the neighbor’s dog had been outside barking for several hours. When officers arrived, they did not hear any noise, and the resident was advised of the complaint.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 1:05 p.m. Monday about receiving calls from a known person. Officers advised the caller of the options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 10:27 a.m. Monday for a report of theft. The caller advised that over the weekend a man wearing a maroon sweatshirt entered the store, placed several items into his backpack and left without paying. The incident was observed on security footage and the matter is under investigation.
