Court News
LISBON — The resentencing of a woman charged with escape, car theft and felonious assault in Lisbon in 2023 has been reset again, this time for 9 a.m. Sept. 5.
Ashley Croley, 39, Youngstown, was supposed to be resentenced last month via video from prison, but due to technical issues with the video connection, Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Washam pulled the plug on the hearing and recently set the new date.
Croley will appear remotely through the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections video connection.
Croley had her case remanded back to Common Pleas Court for resentencing after the 7th District Court of Appeals ruled the trial court miscalculated the maximum sentence, saying the maximum sentence should have been 11 years, not 12 years. The case had already been set for resentencing back in January, but then she filed an appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court, which was denied along with a motion for reconsideration.
She had been sentenced to a total of eight years minimum in prison. The sentence for the felonious assault should have added three years to the grand total for a maximum of 11 years: two years plus the six years plus three years. Whether or not she serves the additional three years will be up to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.
On the sentencing judgment entry, the maximum was listed as 12 years, which the appellate court said did not comply with sentencing law.
The charges against Croley stemmed from an incident Aug. 5, 2023 when she was serving some time at the Eastern Ohio Correction Center, a community-based facility for women, located in Lisbon, for a probation violation and climbed the fence and escaped. She then stole a car and ran over the owner’s foot when he attempted to stop her.

She was sentenced to 15 months in prison, with credit for 121 days served in jail. The charges stemmed from incidents in June 2024. According to court records, police responded to a report of a female freaking out on people trying to check on her. When officers asked her what was going on, she started getting agitated and started walking away, then she threw a partially filled Gatorade bottle at one officer and punched another officer in the chest. After being taken to East Liverpool City Hospital, she started kicking and flinging her arms, striking several nurses and also spit in the face of a doctor and spit towards an officer.
