County Sheriff
— A man from Oregon called at 6:02 p.m. Tuesday to request a welfare check on another man who resides on Washington Street, Washingtonville due to him not answering his phone for several days. A deputy spoke with the other man, who said his phone was out of service. The deputy contacted the Oregon man by phone and the other man spoke with him.
–A man on Case Road, Knox Township, reported at 10:54 p.m. Saturday that his ex-fiance was refusing to leave his property after being told several times to leave. While a deputy was en route, he was told to disregard because the woman had left in her vehicle.
— Deputies responded at 7:10 a.m. on Friday to Depot Rd. near Speidel Rd. to a report of a man walking who appeared to have two kitchen knives. The subject was located on state Route 172 at Baker Road but he did not have knives in his possession. The subject was uncooperative but was committing no crime and did not appear to be in distress and the incident was cleared.
— Deputies responded at 9:36 p.m. on Friday to the intersection of Rollercoaster and Elkton Roads in Madison Township to a report of a car stopped in the middle of the roadway and a couple arguing. Deputies checked the area but made negative contact.
— Deputies responded at 3:50 p.m. on Thursday to DP Fuel on state Route 7 in Fairfield Township to a report of an intoxicated driver. Deputies checked the area but made negative contact.
— Deputies responded at 5:19 a.m. on Thursday to an open 911 call on Riffle Rd. in Elkrun Township. One resident advised their phone had gone into emergency mode and called 911. After a brief investigation, the incident was cleared.
— Deputies responded at 1:19 p.m. on Thursday to Conkle Rd. in Salem Township to a report of a resident who said someone was knocking on the door of his residence. Deputies made negative contact with any subject in the area.
— Deputies responded at 6:42 p.m. on Thursday to Grant St. in Center Township to a caller who reported her mother was “freaking out.” At the scene, the woman said that her daughter, who claimed her mother was drunk, needed to mind her own business. She said there were no issues, both women went to their respective bedrooms and the incident was cleared.
— A Hanoverton resident came to the sheriff’s department at 9:24 p.m. to report her husband, with whom she is separated from, is harassing her through text messages and threatening to assault her.
— Deputies responded at 5:36 p.m. on Wednesday to an alarm drop on Ellyson Road in Hanover Township. Deputies found all doors and windows were secure.
— Deputies responded at 7:47 p.m. on Wednesday to Depot Rd. in Center Township to assist the Wayne County Common Pleas Court in serving a protection order.
— Deputies responded at 10:31 p.m. on Aug. 23 to Cloverleaf Stable on Georgetown Rd. in Knox Township to a report of criminal mischief.
— Deputies responded at 6:43 a.m. on Aug, 23 to Carmel Anchor Rd. in Rogers in Middleton Township to a domestic dispute. Both subjects advised the deputies they were arguing over nothing serious.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Reilly Avenue at 7:58 a.m. Wednesday to speak with school administrators. Officers were advised that a student had not been to school so far this year and had attendance problems last year. It was found that the family had moved without notifying anyone of where they were moving or if the juvenile was going to another school and the school wanted the matter documented. Children services will be contacted.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 1:46 a.m. Wednesday for a reported person to be removed. Officers were advised that two people were inside the store making a mess and wanted both of them removed and trespassed. Officers found that one of the people, Aerial Durham, 36, Salem, had already been trespassed from the store and they were taken into custody. The other person was advised that they were trespassed from the store and Durham was transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with trespassing.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday for a reported intoxicated person. The caller advised that an older man had stumbled across the street from the local bar and had fallen and struck his head. Officers spoke with the man who had injuries to his nose and left cheek and first responders and EMT were contacted and transported the man to the Salem Regional Medical Center for treatment.
— Officers on patrol responded to the 900 block of East State Street at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday for a reported moving and equipment violation. During the stop the driver was checked for impairment and the driver was ultimately recovered by a sober party as a precaution. A brief check of the vehicle confirmed the officers’ observations, and the driver was made aware of the current laws regarding the use of vehicles and marijuana.
— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 7:04 p.m. Tuesday for a reported combative patient. Officers and EMT spoke with them, and they agreed to be transported for treatment.
— Officers recovered stolen property in the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 6:23 p.m. Tuesday. A suspect was identified for pending charges.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of South Broadway Avenue at 6:14 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a possible theft. The caller advised that they work for Buffalo Biodiesel and that they obtain used grease from the restaurant and that the storage bin had the lock bar tampered with and there was no grease in the bin. They advised that they were last there previously on July 23 and were unsure if the grease was actually taken or not but wanted the incident documented.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 5:31 p.m. Tuesday regarding an issue which occurred on the school bus. Officers obtained information from the caller, and the matter will be turned over to the proper individuals.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Seventh Street at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic dispute. Contact was made with all parties involved, and it was found that nothing physical had occurred. They were also advised to use less aggressive techniques when communicating and of the eviction process in Ohio.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of South Howard Avenue at 4:31 p.m. Tuesday for a reported theft. Officers located the person in question, and they provided the location of the stolen items. The person was advised of pending criminal charges, and the property owner was advised where to recover their property.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Hawley Avenue at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday for a report of an unattended juvenile. No juveniles were located.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Wilson Street at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday for a reported parking complaint. Officers were unable to contact the owner, and a red written warning was left on the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 1:12 p.m. Tuesday for a reported scam. The caller advised that an employee had received an email that she thought was from the owner of the company requesting a payment which was sent before realizing it was a scam. A stop payment was placed on the check, and no money was lost, and the caller wanted a report on file.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of West State Street at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday for a report of theft. Officers advised the caller to have the victim call with the details of the incident to create a proper report.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday for a reported neighbor dispute. The caller advised that sometime Sunday night someone had thrown a liquid all over his vehicle. He advised that there did not appear to be any damage done but still wanted a report made.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Arch Street at 11:32 a.m. Tuesday for a reported juvenile issue. Officers were advised of a juvenile going in and out of backyards in the area and located the juvenile in the 700 block of Newgarden Avenue. The school resource officer was advised and responded to transport the juvenile to school and contact their guardian.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East State Street at 10:18 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a possible theft. The caller advised that a person left without paying for gas but advised they would be back to pay, and the caller wanted a report made. While officers were attempting to contact the person, the caller called back and advised that the person had returned and paid for the gasoline.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:42 a.m. Tuesday regarding a situation concerning their property. Officers advised them that the issue was civil in nature.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Fifth Street at 8:47 a.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke to both parties who advised that it was only a verbal argument. Officers advised both parties to stay away from one another for the time being and both advised they understood.
–Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 12:49 a.m. Tuesday for a report of an armed person causing a scene in the hospital lobby. Officers located the people in question at a nearby business and advised them to keep away from the hospital. Officers then responded to the hospital to collect information and review the camera footage.
–Officers responded to a business in the 100 block of West State Street at 12:04 a.m. Tuesday for a report of threats being made. Officers collected information about the matter and provided all parties with statements to be completed.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of West State Street at 11:54 a.m. Tuesday for a reported fight in progress which allegedly involved a gun being brandished. When officers arrived all involved parties were separated, and officers spoke with a woman who was identified as the person with a firearm. She co-operated with commands, and the firearm was taken and cleared by officers. At least two men had engaged in a fight leading to one suffering lacerations to his upper and lower lip and a cracked tooth while the other man complained of a cut on his hand and a headache. Officers are awaiting written statements from all parties involved as several conflicting stories were given. The case is continuing.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of Franklin Street at 9:11 p.m. Monday for a report of a person allegedly assembling a firearm and making threats toward someone. Officers collected information about the matter and found that the person did not have a firearm and that they were instead airsoft guns and were allegedly not making threats. Officers further advised that the person in question stay away from the residence that was concerned.
–Officers responded to the 500 block of Euclid Street at 8:37 p.m. Monday for a reported reckless operator which was later found to be a form of harassment. Officers collected information about the matter and gave the caller a statement form to fill out and advised them that the matter would be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of East Second Street at 6:38 p.m. Monday for a reported animal-at-large. The caller located a lost dog in the area and wanted assistance locating the owner. After it was determined that the animal control officer was out-of-town the caller was given the option of taking the dog down to kennels near the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office or posting the dog on social media to attempt to locate the owner. The caller chose to use social media and was advised to contact the department if further assistance was needed.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of Fair Avenue at 6:08 p.m. Monday for a reported custody dispute. Officers spoke with all parties involved and advised them of their legal options.
–Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 5:52 p.m. Monday regarding their juvenile’s other parent driving intoxicated with the children inside of a vehicle. Officers advised them of their options and to contact them immediately if there are any further issues.
–Officers responded to the 1000 block of Superior Avenue at 4:02 p.m. Monday for a reported parking complaint. Officers were advised that a vehicle had been parked for multiple days without moving and had been hooked up to the parks department’s electricity. Officers spoke with the owner, advising they could not do so and of park hours. She advised that she understood and that she would be leaving soon.
–Officers responded to the 1000 block of East Fourth Street at 1:23 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers found the resident to be deceased, and the county coroner was notified and responded to the scene. Officers stood by until the scene was secured.
–Officers spoke to a person at the police department regarding a possible civil issue at 12:24 p.m. Monday. The caller advised officers of an incident, and officers advised them that since they live in Perry Township criminal charges would go through that department and they advised they understood.
–Officers responded to the 1000 block of the East Third Street at 10:36 a.m. Monday for a reported civil issue. Officers spoke with the person involved and advised them of the options for dealing with the situation.
Perry Township
–Officers on patrol in the 1900 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 1:39 a.m. Tuesday located an open door on a business. Officers found the building to be unoccupied.
–Officers responded to the 11000 block of Andrew Avenue at 11:43 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with all parties and were advised that everyone was OK.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of West Fifth Street at 9:18 p.m. Monday to assist Salem officers with a report of a person who made possible threats and was walking around with an unassembled rifle. The man was found and detained, and the rifle was found to be a BB gun. Officers stood by until the investigation was done.
–Officers responded to the area of state Route 45 at 7:49 p.m. Monday for a reported reckless operator. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of Benton Road at 5:31 p.m. Monday for a follow up. Officers spoke with all parties involved.
–Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 4:35 p.m. Monday for a report of possible fraud and harassment. A person had been using her old phone number to access her Amazon account and had claimed to have of the caller’s information. The caller advised they changed their passwords and also wanted a report.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of Benton Road at 2:35 p.m. Monday for a reported runaway juvenile. The 14-year-old male who the caller has custody of, left the residence around 9:40 a.m. and hadn’t returned. A missing juvenile form was filled out and the juvenile was entered into LEADS.
–Officers responded to the 1100 block of West Perry Street at 12:10 p.m. Sunday for a report of trespassing. The caller advised that they believed someone had been coming into his apartment while he wasn’t there, moving things around, and taking items. There were no signs of forced entry and the caller advised he always locks his deadbolt when he leaves.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of Country Club Lane at 9:18 p.m. Saturday for a reported domestic in progress. A woman was attempting to leave after consuming alcohol when their brother took that keys, and the woman advised that the car was kicked. The woman was advised to come to the station the following day when not consuming alcohol for a statement and photos if they wanted to pursue charges and not to leave the property at that time. No physical violence was reported.
–Officers responded to the area of Pine Lake Road and North Lincoln Avenue at 9:12 p.m. Saturday for a reported cow in the roadway. A member of the fire department responded and was able to get the animal to its owner.
–Officers responded to the 2200 block of Goshen Road at 7:57 p.m. Saturday for a report of a group of female juveniles stopping and asking for a phone. Officers found the juveniles had left a group home and stood by until Goshen Township officers arrived.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Pembrook Drive at 8:36 p.m. Friday for a reported neighborhood dispute. Officers spoke with both parties, and they agreed to separate for the night.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of Plymouth Place at 8:20 p.m. Friday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised that an animal could be heard howling constantly in a nearby woodland. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate them.
–Officers responded to the 2200 block of Shamrock Arbor Drive at 7:57 p.m. Friday to assist the fire department. Officers stood by and assisted until no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Prospect Street at 1:41 p.m. Aug. 26 for a report of a woman who had fallen. Officers were able to gain entry into the home for EMT and the fire department to enter and provide aid to the woman.
Leetonia
— An officer responded at 3:48 p.m. Aug. 29 to the area of Columbia and Home streets to perform a welfare check. A caller reported seeing an unconscious female driver behind the wheel in a purple SUV. He was unable to locate said vehicle and cleared the scene without incident.
— Police responded at 5 a.m. Aug. 29 to the 200 block of High Street, after a caller stated that he was doing fentanyl and going to kill himself. Two officers arrived and spoke to a homeowner and neighbors who advised there was no suicidal male present. Police double checked with dispatch to make sure the address was correct and it was.
— William Staton, address unknown, was cited at 8:56 pm. Aug. 30 in the 300 block of Columbia Street for driving under suspension. The vehicle was released to its owner who parked it in a nearby parking lot of a private business.
–A New Waterford woman was given a verbal warning at 12:45 p.m. Aug. 25, after being stopped for speeding near State and Madison. Upon contact, the officer noticed that she was shaking and inquired. It turns out that she had low blood sugar and EMS was called to administer aid. After responding, she signed a refusal for further treatment and went on her way.
— Cameron Best, address unknown, was given a verbal warning for expired registration at 12:51 p.m. Aug. 28 in the area of Hazel and Columbia streets. Best was cited for passing on a double yellow line, which triggered the traffic stop in the first place.
— An officer responded at 5:02p.m. Aug. 30 to a residence in the 600 block of Columbia Street, after a female caller stated “a man on a segway” had approached her residence in an attempt to sell goods and services. After making with the man, who identified himself as Javan Yoder and working for a well-known pest removal company, he explained they were traveling around local municipalities going door-to-door in an attempt to offer services to homeowners. He was advised that Leetonia has an ordinance prohibiting against soliciting without a permit and advised him of the procedure to acquire one. While releasing Yoder, another homeowner from the 300 block relayed that there was reports of similar activity elsewhere resulting in burglaries and he questioned if they were the same subjects. Yoder and his supervisor were warned again before the officer cleared about the soliciting violation.
— Police issued a verbal warning at 1:52 p.m. Aug. 31 to residents of the 300 block of Columbia Street for open burning. While an officer was on routine patrol, he noticed a large amount of black smoke rising from a small fire pit that had caught a nearby portion of dry grass on fire and was spreading to a treelike. He and the male resident extinguished the blaze with a water hose. The fire department was contacted to left them know that the situation had been handled.
— William Staton, address unknown, was cited at 9:45 a.m. Aug. 31 for driving under suspension on Esterly Drive near state Route 344.
— A Leetonia man reported at 3:01 p.m. Aug. 30 that his neighbors were revving their vehicle engines intentionally seeking to aggravate him. He declined to file a report regarding the noise complaint.
— An officer noticed an open door at 2:18 p.m. Aug. 30 on the Berea Christian Fellowship Church. After searching and resecuring the building, he cleared the scene.
— Police investigated a suspicious vehicle at 9:53 a.m. Aug. 30 in the area of State and Hazel streets and found that the driver had parked there after leaving work for a nap.
— An officer investigated a physical altercation between juveniles at 8:15 p.m. Aug. 29 near the home grandstands. Neither participant said he needed medical attention, and the school district is going to handle the situation.
— Two dogs were reported to be running at large at 7:24 p.m. Aug. 31 near the splash pad. Upon response, the dogs couldn’t be located.
— Police performed a welfare check at 8:39 a.m. Sept. 1 in the 200 block of West Main Street. The caller had been concerned for two children ages 3 and 7 also at the residence. The officer was unable to get anyone to answer the door so cleared without incident.
— Police was dispatched at 7:50 p.m. Aug. 30 to the 100 block of Oak Street for a welfare check, as a male subject had claimed that he had harmed himself the day before. The man admitted to cutting himself to cope with trauma and stress. Eventually the male agreed to voluntarily go with Green Township EMS to a facility for evaluation.
— An officer responded at 8:29 a.m. Sept. 3 to the 800 block of Cherry Park for an open line and found everything to be secured.
— A resident of the 400 block of Somer Street reported at 10:07 a.m. that an unknown subject stole his silver Harley enclosed trailer valued at $6,000, containing a tile saw, lumber and miscellaneous tools.
— Police responded to an alarm drop at Leetonia Community Public Library at 5:34 p.m. Aug. 31 and found everything was secure.
— Officers responded at 10:29 p.m. Sept. 1 to a custody dispute. A female caller relayed she gave her ex the kids for the weekend and he didn’t return them at 5 p.m. as they had agreed and was apparently avoiding her calls. Police advised that she would have to contact her attorney in the morning, since this was a civil matter. Police had been unsuccessful in contacting the ex or the kids.
