Sheriff’s Office

— A deputy was dispatched at 8:59 p.m. Tuesday to the area of state Route 517, Elkrun Township for a suspicious vehicle. The immediate and surrounding areas were checked, with the vehicle not found.

— A deputy responded at 11:31 p.m. Monday to DP Fuel, state Route 7, Fairfield Township for a medical call. EMS personnel advised they could not transport the person to the hospital the person requested. A deputy spoke with a supervisor and received permission to give the person a courtesy ride to the hospital and took them.

— Neighbor issues were reported at 5:19 p.m. Sunday on Bye Road, Middleton Township. A deputy spoke to the caller and advised them how to proceed.

— An open 911 line was reported at 5:01 p.m. Sunday on Smith Road, Middleton Township, with a deputy making contact with the homeowner and learning it was an accident.

— A deputy returned a call at 3:05 p.m. Sept. 24 regarding a civil matter on Steubenville Pike Road, Center Township and advised the person how to proceed.

Salem

–Officers responded to the 300 block of Morgan Court at 12:48 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a suspicious person ringing doorbells asking for help. Officers located the person in question on North Ellsworth Avenue near the Salem Community Center and spoke with them. They were vague with details about why he was doing so and claimed to have been assaulted but this did not appear to be the case. After more details were given and the matter was investigated further it was found that he had left the residence he was staying at due to being frustrated with the person they were staying with. They were given a ride back to the residence where officers spoke with the other half and it was found that it was a misunderstanding, and it was verified that the man could stay there for the night.

–Officers responded to the 1500 block of East Third Street at 9:36 p.m. Tuesday for a reported open burning complaint. Officers checked the area and surrounding blocks but did not locate any fires.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of Bank Street at 9:21 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a possible domestic dispute. The caller advised that he had been locked out of the house. It was determined that the caller had grabbed the wrong house key to get back in, and the parties were advised to stay in their separate areas for the evening. They were also advised of the process to obtain an eviction notice.

–Officers responded to the 600 block of Ohio Avenue at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday for a reported hit-and-skip. The caller advised that their vehicle was sideswiped by a white Jeep while parked on the side of the street which then fled the scene southbound on Ohio Avenue. Officers collected information about the matter as well as pictures of the damage.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 6:39 p.m. Tuesday regarding a check of theirs being signed and money being withdrawn from their account without their knowledge. Officers collected information about the matter and a copy of the check and advised them to freeze their accounts, if possible, to contact their bank as soon as possible to assist with the matter. It was found that since they reside in Perry Township that the Perry Township Police Department would need to handle the matter and were contacted and advised to do so by phone.

–Officers responded to the 700 block of East State Street at 4:14 p.m. Tuesday for a report of suspicious activity. Officers located the person in question in the 100 block of Woodland Avenue. He advised that he had been in a verbal altercation with juveniles.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 1:43 p.m. Tuesday for a reported noise complaint. The caller advised that it sounded like someone was possibly shooting a firearm in the area. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the source of the complaint.

–Officers responded to the 200 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 12:51 p.m. Tuesday for a speak with officer report. The caller had questions about housing due to being homeless and information was provided.

–Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 12:26 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a person inside of a vehicle. Officers spoke with the woman who advised that she was sleeping. Officers advised them of the complaint.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of West Pershing Street and South Howard Avenue at 11:42 a.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a city resident. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised that they were not feeling well. The man was subsequently transported to the emergency room by ambulance.

–Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 8:04 a.m. Tuesday for a report of criminal damage. The caller advised that he observed a man inside the fenced-in area in the parking lot who fled in a dark-colored truck when confronted and that they had cut a hole in the fence to gain access. An extra watch will be placed on the business in case the person returns.

–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Cedar Ridge Drive at 5:39 a.m. Tuesday for a reported assault. The caller advised that they had been involved in a physical dispute with a person known to them in the city. Officers provided them with their options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 5:18 a.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a person who had left the emergency room with and IV in. Officers located the person walking near State Street and Broadway Avenue and gave him a ride back to the hospital to have the IV taken out.

— Officers responded to the area of South Broadway Avenue at 2:58 a.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a person walking down the middle of the roadway. The person appeared to be okay, and officers advised them to stay off the roadway and walk on the sidewalk.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of North Madison Avenue at 12:07 a.m. Tuesday for a civil standby. Officers stood by while one of the parties collected their belongings and left.

— Officers responded to Salem Regional Medical Center at 9:26 p.m. Monday for a report of drug paraphernalia that was recovered from a patient. Officers collected the item and brought it back to our department where it was destroyed.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Whinnery Road at 8:46 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the woman in question who officers had been looking for in a previous call. The woman advised that people were following her and was not make sense, and she then requested medical attention and the fire department and EMT responded and transported her to the hospital for evaluation.

— Officers responded to the area of Southeast Boulevard and Franklin Avenue at 8:35 p.m. Monday for a wellness check on a woman walking in the area. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the woman.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 8:04 p.m. Monday for a criminal damaging report. The caller advised that their vehicle was struck with what they believed to be a rock while driving. Further investigation found the object was possibly a dead nicotine vape thrown on the ground while the vehicle was passing by. Statements were collected from both parties and will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

— Officers responded to the area of East 14th Street and Shady Lane at 6:56 p.m. Monday for a report of reckless operation. The caller alleged that a neighbor was riding dirt bikes in the area. Officers checked the area and the person in question’s residence. Nothing was located.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 6:54 p.m. Monday regarding reported threats. The caller advised that while Door Dashing his former employer began to threaten him and was trying to fight him, and that he had come to the police department from the business to make a report. He also advised that this is not the first time that he has done this. Officers contacted the person in question who denied ever threatening the caller and said that he only wanted to talk to him about money that was owed to him.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of West Wilson Street at 6:35 p.m. Monday for a report of a person using a credit card without permission. Officers collected information and spoke with the person in question who claimed to know nothing about the matter and was not in possession of the card. Officers had the parties fill out statements and the matter will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for determination.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 6:04 p.m. Monday regarding a bad check which was sent by a scam entity. Officers advised the person no to interact with it and to dispose of it and to contact them if there were any further issues

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 3:51 p.m. Monday for a reported theft. Officers were advised that a man had entered the store four different times in the same day and taken $53.28 in merchandise without paying. The man was identified, and charges are pending.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:31 p.m. Monday for a reported suspicious person. Officers located the person in question and after speaking with him transported him back to his residence.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Hawley Avenue at 10:96 a.m. Monday for a report of accidental damage. The caller, who was the driver of a garbage truck, advised that his truck had caught a low hanging wire and snapped a telephone pole. All damage was documented.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of West State Street at 7:09 p.m. Sunday for a report of two people standing in front of a train and jumping away before being struck. They were located on Jennings Avenue and advised to remain off of the tracks.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of West Pershing Street at 6:45 p.m. Sunday for a reported dispute. Officers spoke with both parties who advised that they were having a disagreement. The male half left and the two were separated for the night.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of South Howard Avenue at 6:12 p.m. Sunday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that a relative was sleeping in their residence and they wanted them to leave. Officers spoke with the person in question Joseph Stewart, 50, Youngstown, who was found to have an active warrant out of Columbiana County. He was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 5:53 p.m. Sunday regarding their daughter. The caller advised that his daughter was slandering them on social media and harassing him via his phone despite living in the same house with him. He was provided with his options for having them evicted from the residence and officers spoke with the daughter who provided a different story from the caller’s but was advised to cease her actions.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Sixth Street at 5:53 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the woman, and everything checked okay.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 5 p.m. Sunday for a medical call. The caller advised that they had a seizure and needed medical attention. EMT transported the woman to the hospital.
