Highway Patrol
— Joshua Minger, of state Route 45 of Lisbon, was cited at 12:58 p.m. Oct. 4 in Perry Township, after he pulled from a stop sign at Cunningham Road on state Route 344 into the path of Kurt Kampher, of Lisbon Street in Lisbon, and was struck. Kampfer had to right of way.
— Dennis Smith, of Bristolville, was cited at 11:06 a.m. Oct. 4 in Middleton Township for failure to yield the right of way, after he turned left onto Pancake Clarkson Road into the path of Maureen Shields of Georgetown, Pa while she was northbound on state Route 170 and was struck.
— Ryan Moore, of state Route 154 in Lisbon, was cited at 2:47 p.m. Oct. 3 in Madison Township for failure to yield the right of way, after he was struck while trying to turn left onto U.S. Route 30 from state Route 267 by Jason Hans, of Saint Clairsville, who had the right of way.
— James Moreland-Whitmer, of Campbell Road in Hanoverton, was cited at 5:39 a.m. Sept. 29 in Hanover Township for failure to control, after he went off the right side of Mardis Road and struck a tree.
Salem
— Officers located a vehicle in Waterworth Memorial Park after hours at 1:20 a.m. Saturday. Officers spoke with the driver, who advised that he’d gone on a run to clear his head. Officers stood by until he left the park.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Bank Street at 12:52 a.m. Saturday for a reported family dispute. A juvenile caller advised that his older brother had hit him. The situation was determined to be an issue between brothers with nothing needed after speaking with the parents.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 12:11 a.m. Saturday regarding a sex offense that occurred in the 2200 block of East State Street on Wednesday. Officers collected the necessary information, and the matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Jennings Avenue at 12:02 a.m. Saturday for a reported warrant check. Officers were unable to locate the person in question.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Fifteenth Street at 11:55 p.m. Friday for a report of juveniles on dirt bikes and four wheelers. Officers checked the area and observed a dirt bike being ridden through the woods and bike trail of Waterworth Memorial Park. Officers stayed in the area for several minutes but were unable to locate the bike.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Granite Avenue at 10:52 p.m. Friday for a warrant check. Officers spoke with the person in question, Tina Gardner, 36, Salem, advising them of the warrant, and took her into custody and transported her to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Lamot Bickley Jr., 24, Salem, was cited for driving under suspension after a registration check on his southbound vehicle on South Lincoln Avenue showed the owner to be suspended, and Bickley’s license was also found to be suspended during the resulting traffic stop at 9:07 p.m. Friday. The vehicle was towed by Davidson’s Towing.
— Officers responded to the area of West School Street at 8:58 p.m. Friday for a report of yelling. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate anything.
— Officers responded to the area of South Lundy Avenue at 7:50 p.m. Friday for a reported loud exhaust. The caller advised that a red truck was constantly driving by his residence revving his engine. Officers observed the vehicle driving with a loud exhaust and conducted a traffic stop. Officers advised the driver to stop revving his engine.
— Officers responded to the area of Highland Avenue and East Third Street at 7:36 p.m. Friday for a report of juveniles riding bikes in the roadway. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate anyone.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of South Howard Avenue at 7:24 p.m. Friday for a reported juvenile problem. The caller advised that their juvenile son was hitting his other juvenile son. Officers advised the juvenile of the unruly laws.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 6:31 p.m. Friday for a reported medical call. Officers stood by until the fire department and EMT arrived.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 5:29 p.m. Friday for a reported child custody dispute. The caller advised that they were to meet with the child’s mother at 5 p.m. for custody exchange, but the mother never showed up, and the caller requested a report on file.
— Officers took a report at the police department at 4:36 p.m. Friday regarding ammunition found inside of a vehicle. The person in question advised that he had bought a retired police vehicle at an auction and found a bullet in the driver’s side door. Officers obtained the bullet to be properly destroyed.
— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 11:46 a.m. Friday regarding concerns about menacing. The caller advised that an employee of his had been having issues with an ex who has been trespassed from the property but keeps driving by when the employee is at work. Officers advised the caller they were familiar with the parties in question and requested they call back when the ex is actively near the business. The caller is gathering video footage that shows them sitting and driving near the business.
— Officers on patrol observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in the 2800 block of East State Street at 3:18 a.m. Friday. Officers attempted a traffic stop, and the vehicle continued through the intersection with South Cunningham Road and crashed in Dunkin Donuts’ east parking lot. Officers then got the occupants out of the vehicle and placed both Angel Gonzales, Salem, and Jose Gonzales, Salem, into custody and transported them to the police department for processing prior to transport to the Columbiana County Jail.
Washingtonville
— An officer responded at 5 p.m. Oct. 6 to the 500 block of Washington Street for a occupantless vehicle blocking a driveway. The vehicle was no stolen, and the driver who had mistakenly parked in the wrong driveway, was located.
— Police provided backup to Leetonia at 10:39 a.m. Oct. 5 with a Pine Street neighbor dispute.
Leetonia
— Daniel Belich II, no address listed, was arrested at 9:41 p.m. Sept. 30 near Walnut and Park on charges of OVI refusal and passing left of center. A traffic stop had been initiated after an officer witnessed him pass a moving sedan, failing to use a turn signal and squealing his tires as he rapidly accelerated past it. Belich, the driver, exhibited signs of alcohol impairment and admitted to having two beers earlier in Salem. He was transported to the Lisbon post, where he declined to consent to the tests.
— An officer responded at 5:23 a.m. Oct. 2 to the Columbiana Foundry to backup Columbiana police who had been investigating a possible burglary. The suspect was described as wearing black with head vision on, tan pants, a large backpack and carrying a pistol on his hip.
— Police responded at 8:56 p.m. Oct. 1 to Coal Alley, after they received a call from a driver complaining about people on the sidewalk yelling at him to “slow down.” Upon arrival, the four people admitted that they had told the caller to slow down as he was “flying down” the road.
— An officer responded at 7:18 a.m. Oct. 2 to the gas station in the 300 block of Columbia Street, where a teenage male was having a panic attack. Leetonia fire and EMS provided care and transported him to a Boardman care facility.
— Police were sent to do a welfare check at 9:59 a.m. Oct. 2 on a woman in the 100 block of Main Street, as her employer had been trying to call her with no response. She was fine but sleeping.
— An officer made contact with a Canton man at 11:55 p.m. Sept. 30 in the 300 block of East Main Street, trying to find his way to Massillon. After allowing him to charge his dead phone, he was provided with directions to where he was going.
— Police responded at 3:41 p.m. Oct. 2 to the 400 block of Pearl Street, where solicitors were going door-to-door on behalf of some kind of electric provider. They were notified of the requirement for permits and promised to leave the village, not returning unless they had permits.
— Officers responded at 9:46 p.m. Oct. 5 to the area of Lisbon and Columbia streets for a possible vehicle-pedestrian accident. According to the female driver, the male pedestrian walked in front of her car while she was turning onto Lisbon from Columbia. The driver as well as a witness, said the man was wearing dark clothes and walked off after telling the driver he was okay.
— An attempted welfare check at 5:26 p.m. Oct. 6 in the 100 block of Oak Street was unsuccessful,.
— An officer on foot patrol at 2:27 p.m. Oct. 5 in Wick Park was approached by a male who reported that he had custody rights of his children this weekend except the children’s mother was ignoring all attempts for him to get them. He was told it was a civil matter.
— While on routine patrol, an officer observed a broken bucket of unknown chemical fluid in the roadway near the top of Chestnut Street draining down the hill toward a storm drain on Main Street. He requested fire to cleanup the spill.
— An officer noticed a door at Leetonia High School propped open at 2:35 a.m. Oct. 6. After closing the concession stand door, he searched the area and all other doors and windows were secured with no signs of forced entry.
— While refueling an U.S. Postal Service vehicle, the driver Logan Strojny struck a steel bar that prevents the gas pumps from being struck in the 300 block of Columbia Street. Damage was done to the driver’s rear door.
— An officer took a fraud report shortly after noon Oct. 3 in the 300 block of Honey Lane. While the caller didn’t provide any personal or bank information or purchase the cards as requested, he wanted to notify police. He was encouraged to block the caller and not answer any future calls.
— A private property crash report was taken at 11:21 p.m. Oct. 3 in the 400 block of Walnut Street. The driver of a school bus, after dropping off the football team at the fieldhouse, went to back up the bus to park and struck a parked vehicle behind him, damaging its hood and the rear bumper of the bus. No one else was on the bus. The parked vehicle was in a posted no parking area. Both drivers filled out voluntary statements and the officers collected those as well as photographed the vehicles for the insurance companies.
— An officer stopped to check on a Columbiana County Sheriff’s deputy, who was assisting a motorist with a flat tire, at 3:38 p.m Oct. 4 at state Route 344 and Lisbon-Canfield Road.
