LISBON — In Columbiana County Municipal Court, cases against Rachel R. Mazza, 36, West Fourth Street, East Liverpool, were bound over to the county grand jury for two counts of escape, one a fifth-degree felony and one a fourth-degree felony, for allegedly escaping twice from East Liverpool City Hospital while she was an inmate of the Columbiana County jail.
The first incident allegedly occurred on Sept. 14 when she took off her ankle bracelet and left the hospital, returning to resume treatment after a deputy sheriff and East Liverpool police searched the area.
On Sept. 15, she tried to escape by running out of her hospital room door by pretending to take a shower and pulling a curtain across the door. She was caught by a nurse in the hallway and taken back to the room by a deputy sheriff who handcuffed her wrist to the bed and double locked the cuffs. While the deputy stepped outside the door in the hallway to call a supervisor to report what happened, Mazza allegedly slipped her cuffs and ran down the hallway to the exit elevator, riding the elevator to the emergency room and escaping out the main doors. Deputies were called on Oct. 4 to a residence on Anderson Avenue, Wellsville for the escapee at the location. She allegedly refused multiple announcements to surrender and was located hiding under a bed by a police K-9. She allegedly refused to come out and was apprehended by the K-9 after the mattress and box spring were lifted.
Mazza was also fined $600 and sentenced to 45 days in jail, with credit for 10 days served, leaving a balance of 35 days still to serve in jail for obstructing official business and two counts of drug paraphernalia. The obstruction charge stemmed from her hiding from police on Oct. 4. For the drug paraphernalia charges, she possessed burnt pipes with residue on Feb. 13 and July 1.
A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Oct. 23 for John Dennis Lanam, 45, Anderson Boulevard, East Liverpool, charged with third-degree felonies of strangulation and having weapons while under disability and misdemeanor assault for allegedly striking a woman with a closed fist, throwing her down and using his forearm to place around her throat to choke her after an argument on Oct. 10 in Liverpool Township. The victim also alleged that after the assault, he grabbed a rifle, but never pointed it at her. He was prohibited from having a firearm due to previous convictions.
A preliminary hearing was set Oct. 23 for Brooke A. Potts, 24, East Lincoln Way, Lisbon, charged with fifth-degree felony domestic violence for allegedly shoving another woman, who is pregnant, during an altercation on Oct. 13 in Lisbon.
A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Nov. 3 for Robert Richard Zewe, 50, Erie, Pa., charged with third-degree felony compelling prostitution, fifth-degree felony possessing criminal tools and misdemeanor engaging in prostitution for allegedly responding to an undercover familial ad on a known prostitution website of an adult mother trafficking her 16-year-old daughter and arranging for sexual activity with both mother and daughter in exchange for money, arriving in East Palestine on Oct. 10 for the meeting with the phone used to make the arrangements in his possession.
A preliminary hearing was set Oct. 23 for Caitlin Marie Dunn, 27, West Fourth Street, East Liverpool, charged with third-degree felony obstructing justice for allegedly telling police a man wanted on felony warrants was not inside her apartment when he was actually inside and she told him police were outside and he took off running from the rear of the residence on Oct. 11 in East Liverpool.
A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Oct. 23 for Jalyn Mae Gates, 29, Erie, Pa., charged with fourth-degree felony improper handling of firearm in motor vehicle and misdemeanors of complicity to aid/abet another and drug paraphernalia for allegedly possessing a loaded handgun after driving another woman to East Palestine on Oct. 10 for a sex-for-hiring meeting. She also allegedly possessed suspected cocaine in her purse and rolled up currency used to snort the cocaine. She was allegedly part of the sex-for-hire arrangement to perform sex acts.
A preliminary/pretrial hearing was set Oct. 23 for Maleek Marques Williams, 18, Erie, Pa., charged with fourth-degree felony improper handling of firearm in a motor vehicle and misdemeanor complicity to aid/abet another for allegedly accompanying two women who arranged for a sex-for-hire meeting and having a loaded handgun in his pants pocket on Oct. 10 in East Palestine.
A pretrial was set Oct. 27 for Jamesha Kyara Hofman, 28, Harrisburg, Pa., charged with soliciting for allegedly posting an ad on a known prostitution website and arranging for sexual activity with an undercover agent in exchange for money and then arriving in East Palestine on Oct. 10 for the meeting.
A pretrial was set Jan. 6 for Nijeer Jerrion Burrows, 20, Erie, Pa., charged with complicity to aid/abet another for allegedly aiding another to commit solicitation on Oct. 10 in East Palestine.
Joshua C. Kersey, 43, New Cumberland, W.Va.,was fined $1,250 and sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 133 days suspended and credit for 17 days served, leaving a balance still to serve of 30 days in jail for misdemeanor domestic violence amended from third-degree felony strangulation and misdemeanors of domestic violence and aggravated menacing for grabbing a woman by both of her arms on Sept. 26 in Wellsville and grabbing her sweatshirt, twisting it and choking her until she became dizzy and had a hard time breathing. He also allegedly sent threatening text messages to the woman and a photo of a gun, saying this week was her last and she was dead. He was ordered to complete 50 hours community service and to have no contact with the victim. A probation violation hearing was set Nov. 6 for a 2024 drug paraphernalia case.
A pretrial was set Oct. 30 for Natasha A. Miller, 32, Putnam Street, East Liverpool, charged with domestic violence for allegedly hitting a man in the face during a dispute Oct. 12 in Wellsville.
A charge of disorderly conduct against Anthony Delmont, 54, East Lincoln Way, Lisbon, was dismissed. He had been accused of allegedly threatening to fight someone on April 24 in Lisbon.
A pretrial was set Oct. 23 for Dominic D. Crooms, 26, West Main Street, Salineville, charged with aggravated menacing, disorderly conduct and menacing for allegedly threatening to stab another man during a disturbance on Oct. 13 in Salineville. Police could hear screaming and loud banging noises and learned Crooms had been told to leave and became hostile and aggressive. When officers made contact with him, he possessed a large fixed blade knife.
A pretrial was set Oct. 30 for Seraphim Athena Laws, 21, Brenda Lane, Columbiana, charged with assault for allegedly pushing another woman, punching her several times in the face and kicking her in the back during an incident at a Center Township residence on Oct. 14. A status conference was also set Oct. 30 for a charge of underage consumption for an incident at Duke & Duchess in Columbiana on Feb. 19.
A pretrial was set Jan. 7 for Bradley A. Eltringham, 39, Church Street, Salineville, charged with aggravated menacing and two counts disorderly conduct for allegedly making threats against another man and fighting with the man on Oct. 10 in Salineville. He was allegedly belligerent with officers after several commands for him to stop.
A pretrial was set Jan. 6 for Ruthann M. Rose, 42, Seigler Road, Salineville, charged with failure to comply, obstructing official business, disorderly conduct, driving under suspension and muffler excessive noise for allegedly exiting her vehicle in an abrupt manner during a traffic stop in Salineville on Oct. 2, refusing to listen to police commands to return to her vehicle and continuing to approach the officer, causing alarm. She also allegedly disrupted BK Beverage and all patrons in the parking lot.
A pretrial was set Oct. 27 for Ryan M. Thompson, 43, last known address Jennings Avenue, Salem, charged with aggravated menacing for allegedly becoming argumentative when asked to leave Salem Regional Medical Center after completing medical treatment on Oct. 13 in Salem and telling hospital staff he was going to go grab his guns and come back to shoot up the place.
Madelyn M. Hairston, 38, North Street, Beloit, was fined $100 and given a suspended 180-day jail term for theft. She was ordered to complete 20 hours community service and to have no contact with the Salem Walmart. Hairston improperly scanned several items totaling $107 and failed to pay at the Salem Walmart on Nov. 26, 2024.
Caleb Austin Hoggard, 22, Grant Street, East Liverpool, was fined $250 and sentenced to 20 days in jail for theft. Hoggard stole two frozen pizzas from Dollar General in East Liverpool on May 26.
Ricky Joe Robinson, 64, Cannons Mill Road, East Liverpool, was fined $100 for disorderly conduct for actions during an incident on Aug. 12 in St. Clair Township.
Megan C. Barker, previously known as Megan C. Hetrick, 30, Fairfield School Road, Columbiana, was fined $200 and sentenced to 11 days in jail, with credit for 11 days served, for disorderly conduct for yelling and cussing during a domestic dispute on Sept. 25, 2020.
Four different defendants were facing charges after an underage drinking party was broken up by Columbiana Police on Oct. 11.
A pretrial was set Jan. 7 for Dawson D. Rogenski, 18, West Salem Street, Columbiana, charged with underage consumption, obstructing official business and disorderly conduct for allegedly being intoxicated, becoming disorderly with police officers and ignoring their commands and then screaming and smacking his head on the partition in the police cruiser on Oct. 11 in Columbiana.
A pretrial was set Jan. 5 for Colin B. Russell, 18, Creek Road, New Waterford, charged with underage consumption, failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and obstructing official business for allegedly fleeing on foot after police arrived at the party, continuing to run from Joshua Dixon to Circle K and then stopping and hiding in bushes where he was caught Oct. 11 in Columbiana.
A pretrial was set Jan. 13 for Emma Kozma, 18, Oak Street, Salem, and a pretrial was set Jan. 7 for Hananiah K. Chamberlain, 19, Madison Drive, Columbiana, each charged with underage consumption, failure to comply with the order of signal of a police officer and obstructing official business for fleeing from the party and attempting to hide behind a shed on Oct. 11 in Columbiana before coming out with their hands raised.
A pretrial was set Jan. 20 for Angel Marie Potts, 32, Avondale Street, East Liverpool, charged with drug paraphernalia for allegedly possessing paraphernalia during a traffic stop on Aug. 2.
A pretrial was set Jan. 7 for Jose Gonzales, 19, Park Drive, Salem, charged with underage consumption for allegedly admitting to drinking after a traffic crash at Dunkin’ Donuts at East State Street and Cunningham Road, with several open containers of alcohol in the vehicle on Oct. 10.
A pretrial was set Jan. 12 for James A.E. Watson, 54, Fourth Street, East Liverpool, charged with operating a vehicle impaired, OVI breath and reasonable control.
A pretrial was set Jan. 12 for Kimberly Monroe, 42, Maple Street, Salem, charged with OVI first offense, OVI breath, and marked lanes.
A pretrial was set Jan. 14 for John M. Ziegler, 68, Darlington, Pa., charged with physical control.
John S. Sexauer, 27, Canonsburg, Pa., was fined $75 for an equipment violation amended from speeding.
Elijah Desmond Colliers, 25, Weirton, W.Va. was fined $100 for no license and speeding.
Hazel Jaye Lehman, 20, Youngstown, was fined $50 for speeding.
