Sheriff Reports

— The family member of an inmate at the federal prison, FCI Elkton, Scrogges Road, Elkrun Township, called at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday requesting assistance. The family member wanted to make the prison staff informed of a situation going on with the inmate, however they could not get in touch with the prison through the posted phone number. A deputy went to the prison and made contact with staff, informing them of the situation.

— Deputies responded early Tuesday morning to a Center Township address on Steubenville Pike Road regarding a neighbor dispute over utilities being shut off. Deputies spoke to both people involved and advised both what to do moving forward.

— A suspicious vehicle was reported at 2:39 p.m. Monday on Pine Hollow Road, Elkrun Township. A deputy spoke with the caller and advised them how to proceed.

— A deputy and the Ohio State Highway Patrol both responded to a residence on Timber Run Road, Unity Township, regarding a domestic reported at 8:26 p.m. Sunday. Both parties advised everything was just verbal and signed refusal forms.

— An alarm was reported at 5:57 a.m. Dec. 10 at the Dollar General in Damascus on Salem Alliance Road, Butler Township. The building was checked and appeared secure. Another alarm was reported at 5:08 a.m. Dec. 10 at a business on state Route 9, Butler Township, with the property checked and found secure.

Salem

–Officers responded to the 1600 block of Franklin Avenue at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday to assist Perry Township Officers. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of South Union Avenue at 3:48 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a juvenile suffering a sudden fit and acting violent. While the juvenile was calm when officers arrived, they were shown a video of the behavior and first responders and EMT responded and transported the juvenile to Akron Children’s Boardman.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:17 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a possible scam. Officers were advised that they had met someone online and were supposedly contacted by a Sheriff’s Office in another state demanding money and stating the individual they were talking to was underage. Officers advised the caller that this was a very common scam, and that they should not send any money and to block all phone numbers associated with the person.

–Hassan Mohamed, 45, Rochester, Minnesota, was cited for failure to yield after their southbound vehicle on South Ellsworth Avenue failed to yield while making a left-hand turn onto Franklin Street at 8:36 a.m., causing it to be struck by a vehicle driven northbound on South Ellsworth by Bradley Strong, 64, Lisbon, at 8:36 a.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Pershing Street at 8:07 a.m. for a report of a possible abandoned vehicle. Officers found that the vehicle was stuck due to the weather and contacted the owner, who already had resources to have the care moved. The vehicle was moved shortly after.

–Officers responded to a business in the 900 block of West State Street at 8 a.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious person. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised that they were passing through and had just stopped there to get warm. Officers provided the person with some assistance, and he left the business without issue.
