Sheriff’s Office

— A woman on state Route 644, Hanover Township, reported at 5:31 p.m. Saturday that her 17-year-old daughter’s father, of Tunnel Hill Road, Hanover Township, called her and said he was coming onto the property to pick up his daughter. A deputy advised her that the man called and said he will pick up his daughter at the end of the driveway. He had called at 4:58 p.m. Saturday to report his daughter lives with her mother and has to leave the residence on foot and walk to the end of the long driveway in 10-degree weather. He said he was picking her up at the end of the driveway.

— Deputies at 2:22 p.m. Saturday assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol with two vehicles off of the roadway and a two-vehicle accident due to road conditions at Depot Road at Hoopes Road, Salem Township.

— A representative of Diamonds Meat and Eat, state Route 45, Center Township, reported at 3:32 p.m. Saturday that a man came into the business after it was closed and was refusing to leave, then left and was in the parking lot. Deputies made contact with the man, of North Beaver Street, Lisbon. He said he was walking to Salem and it was cold. He was provided a courtesy transport to Salem.

— A deputy was dispatched at 9:37 p.m. Friday to Meadow Wood Drive, Butler Township, for a juvenile-related report. The juvenile was transported to a hospital in Mahoning County by Damascus EMS and the report was sent to Child Protective Services.

— A man on state Route 558, Fairfield Township reported at 10:21 p.m. Thursday that unknown people were trespassing on the property and had since left. He was advised to post no trespassing signs on the property.

— A man on Cream Ridge Road, Madison Township, reported at 4:57 p.m. Thursday that a Det. Williams from the Columbiana County Jail called him and told him to send $730.97 to an app due to a family member being in jail and the money was for an ankle monitor. He was advised there was no Det. Williams and that the jail does not issue ankle monitors.

— A woman on Meadow Wood Drive, Butler Township, reported at 10:30 p.m. Fed. 4 that her sister from New Waterford was in the hospital and she received a call that people entered her sister’s residence and were inside. Deputies spoke with a woman of Columbiana and her boyfriend of East Palestine. She said the woman in the hospital is her grandmother and she was told to stay at the residence by her.

— A woman in Center Township reported at 6:45 p.m. Feb. 4 that her daughter’s father continues to harass her over who she is dating. She was advised how to obtain a protection order.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 900 block of Prospect Street at 11:13 p.m. Sunday for a report of telecommunication harassment. Officers spoke with the caller about the issue and advised that it would be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Aetna Street at 9:50 p.m. Sunday for a reported barking dog. Officers found that nobody was home to contact, and the dog was inside the residence. As a result, officers were unable to address the issue, so the matter will be passed along if the issue persists.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue at 7:11 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Contact was made with the person in question and denied needing or wanting any help.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 6:22 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised that they were okay.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Fair Avenue at 1:11 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers found that the incident was verbal only over relationship issues. The male half advised that he was going to leave the residence and go to work.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East State Street at 1:07 p.m. Sunday for a reported drive off. The caller advised that an unknown person had pumped $22.41 in kerosene and left without rendering payment. No direction of travel was provided.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 12:45 p.m. Sunday for a reported animal complaint. Officers spoke with the resident, who advised that their dog had slipped its collar and was actively being searched for.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Fair Avenue at 12:34 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers found that the issue was verbal only, and the male half advised that he was going to leave the residence and go to work.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 9:36 a.m. Sunday for a wellness check. The caller advised that an employee did not come in for work, and that this was unlike them. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised that they had slept in but would contact their employer.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Eighth Street at 5:32 a.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the person in question’s parents, who advised that they were not home and that they would contact him.

— Officers responded to the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 3:14 a.m. Sunday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with one of the parties outside who advised their parents had come home drunk from the bar and began yelling at her to leave the home and was struck in the face and chased down the street. Officers attempted contact with the father, Steven Cappitte, Salem, but as they approached, he began to shut the door on officers and enter the house to get away. Officers were able to prevent the door from being shut and attempted to put handcuffs on Cappitte but he continued to resist. Once he was secured and placed into custody charged with domestic violence and obstructing official business, officers were advised that the parents had been fighting at some point prior to their arrival. The mother did not wish to co-operate with officers and denied needing medical attention for visible injuries. Due to his combative behavior, Cappitte was transported directly to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the area of South Broadway Avenue at 1:04 a.m. Sunday to assist Perry Township Officers with a suspicious vehicle. Officers spoke with the occupant, and he was given a courtesy transport to their residence.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of West Fourth Street at 6:42 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the occupants at the residence and were advised that they were okay and there were no issues.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue at 6:10 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with a distraught juvenile, and first responders were contacted and transported the juvenile to the hospital for further evaluation.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 5:09 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the person in question, and after speaking with officers, he agreed to be voluntarily transported to the emergency room by ambulance.

— Officers responded while they were aware the issue was civil, they wanted a report on file.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of East School Street at 3:13 p.m. Saturday for a reported suspicious vehicle. The caller advised the vehicle was parked, and they were unsure what they were doing inside. Officers spoke with the occupants and nothing suspicious was observed.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of East Third Street at 1:22 p.m. Saturday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with the involved parties and were advised it was a verbal dispute that had turned physical with no injuries. Both parties involved filled out a written statement about what had occurred.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Woodland Avenue at 12:27 p.m. Saturday for a reported dispute. Officers spoke with both parties and were advised the dispute had been verbal only. The male half advised that the was going to leave for a while.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East State Street at 11:43 a.m. Saturday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that an unknown person had pumped $16.40 in gas and fled without paying. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 8:17 p.m. Friday for a reported fight in progress. It was determined that Nathan Roush, 22, East Palestine, had followed a man out of a nearby restaurant and proceeded to strike him in the head and slam him in the ground in the parking lot. Injuries were reported and photographed, and the victim required medical evaluation. Roush was arrested for assault and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 4:20 p.m. Friday for a report of fraud. The caller advised that someone had charged her Shopify account without permission, and she needed a police report made for the dispute process with the company. Officers advised her that a report would be made and that officers would be looking into the matter.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 4:15 p.m. Friday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the person in question, and they advised they were fine.

— Officers responded to the 2100 block of East State Street at 11:06 a.m. Friday for a report of theft. The caller advised two unknown people had entered the store, placed several items in their pockets, and left the store without paying. The incident was observed on security footage, and the matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 11:05 a.m. Friday for a reported theft. The caller advised a customer had failed to return an item they rented. Officers advised of the options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Washington Avenue at 10:54 a.m. Friday for a reported dog at large. The caller advised that a neighbor’s dog had been at large on Wednesday and had attacked and killed one of their animals. The owner, Valarie Rosati, Salem, was cited for dog at large.

— Officers responded to the 2100 block of Southeast Boulevard at 10:04 a.m. Friday for a wellness check. The caller advised they were concerned due to the amount of mail in the mailbox. Officers were unable to speak with the resident, who advised they were out of state.

Leetonia

— An officer waited at 10:50 p.m. Feb. 6 with an intoxicated subject outside the Italian American Club until the arrival of that man’s ride.

— Police responded at 7:10 p.m. Feb. 3 to the first block of Hazel Street in response to a Facebook Marketplace dispute.

— During a special detail at the school, an officer reported at 6:51 p.m. Feb. 6 that a member of the opposing team fell during a play on the basketball court and knocked himself unconscious. The opposing team’s medical staff refused EMS.

— A female Dairy Queen employee reported at 7:22 p.m. Feb. 8, receiving a threatening phone call at the store

— A welfare check was performed at 10:30 p.m. Feb. 6 outside Family Dollar.

— Shortly after midnight Feb. 7, two officers assisted a snowbound vehicle get out in the first block of Hazel.

— Chad Shulack, of Columbiana, was issued a cease and desist warning for a property in the first block of Main at 5:05 p.m. Feb. 7. If he ignores the warning, he faces trespass and telecommunication charges. The same warning was delivered to Katie Smith.

— A downed power line was reported at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 8 in the 100 block of Main Street.
