Sheriff’s Office

— A woman from Scott Mill Road, Rogers reported at 11:55 a.m. Thursday that she received a call from someone claiming to be a Sgt. Scott Smith of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office who told her there was a warrant out for her arrest, she missed jury duty and she must pay $2,100 by bitcoin. She paid the money and when she made contact with the actual sheriff’s office, she was told there was no Sgt. Scott Smith working for the sheriff’s office. She was told deputies do not call and ask for money.

— A woman on Bacon Avenue, Unity Township, called at 9:16 a.m. Thursday to request a report on file per her bank that $2,368.94 was withdrawn from her bank account without her consent.

— Deputies conducted a warrant attempt at 7:40 p.m. Feb. 22 on Sherwood Drive, Yellow Creek Township, and a person fled. Deputies and Wellsville police units searched the immediate and surrounding areas. Units went back to the original address on Sherwood Drive to check it thoroughly again and found a person hiding. Identified as Zachary Rudder, he was taken into custody on an active warrant and taken to the county jail. Rudder, 24, Henry Avenue, Wellsville, appeared in county Municipal Court on Monday for arraignment on charges of criminal damaging and two counts of theft. A pretrial was set March 4.

Salem

–Officers responded to the 600 block of North Howard Avenue at 6:56 p.m. Thursday for a reported criminal trespass complaint. The caller advised a previously trespassed person had knocked on the door and violating a protection order by doing so. Officers checked the area but could not locate the person in question.

–Officers responded to the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 6 p.m. Thursday for an issue concerning an animal. The caller was provided with the options for dealing with the situation.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of North Broadway Avenue at 6 p.m. Thursday for a reported medical issue. Officers assisted until they were no longer needed.

–Officers spoke to someone by phone regarding an issue between two residents at the facility at 4:49 p.m. Officers advised them of the options for dealing with the situation.

–Officers responded to the 1000 block of Cleveland Street at 3:19 p.m. Thursday for a reported juvenile issue. The caller advised their juvenile daughter has been having issues at school with other juvenile females and one of them had come to their house to fight her daughter. Officers spoke with all parties involved and advised them to stay away from one another. The school resource officer was also advised.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 2:16 p.m. Thursday for a reported noise complaint. The caller advised he would turn the music down.

Perry Township

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Stewart Road at 8:39 p.m. Thursday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that she and her fiance had gotten into a disagreement earlier in the day, and when she returned home, he locked her out and would not let her in. When officers arrived, the residence was unlocked. Officers spoke with both parties.

— Officers responded to the area of West State Street and Country Club Lane at 6:56 p.m. Thursday to locate a juvenile who rode his bicycle to that location from Alliance. Officers located the juvenile and stood by with them until their parents arrived and took them home.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 1:22 p.m. Wednesday for an animal complaint. The caller advised that her neighbor’s chickens were on her property and that she was sick of cleaning up after them when they dig at her flower beds. Officers attempted contact with the neighbor but were unable to speak with anyone.

— Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 7:37 p.m. Wednesday regarding an altercation that occurred earlier in the day. The woman advised that she and her husband got into an altercation earlier in the day while in their garage and he smacked her hand away when she attempted to remove the key from his motorcycle. Officers advised her that a report would be on file.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Lake Avenue at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday for a report of theft. The lock to securing a storage unit had been broken and approximately $5,000 of DJ and sound equipment was stolen. Officers checked the area for security cameras but could not locate any.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 11:08 a.m. Wednesday regarding a scam. The person advised that they had sent approximately $2,273.94 to multiple accounts under the impression they were fees associated with gaining access to a loan. They advised that they would be forwarding screenshots of the transactions to the officer’s email.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of West Perry Street at 3:42 p.m. Tuesday to stand by while Salem’s school resource officer spoke with the residents about an incident that occurred at the school.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday for a report of fraud. The caller advised that they had received a check in the mail from what appeared to be an insurance company for $6,952 and a letter advising him to cash the check, which he did, and that the bank had contacted him and advised that it was fraudulent. The caller wanted a report on file before heading to his bank.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 5:09 p.m. Monday who advised that several people claiming to be relatives of a person living at the group home they work at said they were going to come there. The caller was advised that a report would be on file and to call if anyone unwanted showed up.

— Officers responded to the 1500 block of Jackson Street at 3:06 p.m. Monday for a reported dog at large. The caller advised that this has been an ongoing issue. Officers were unable to speak with the owner of the dog, and the humane agent was contacted and advised of the complaint.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 1:24 p.m. Monday for a reported verbal dispute. When officers arrived, several people were in the process of moving from the residence. A man and woman got into a verbal dispute over property and the man decided to leave and come back to get the rest of his property later.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Conser Drive at 10:33 a.m. Sunday for a reported dog bite. The caller advised that a dog had bitten their juvenile daughter in the face causing a laceration on her lip. The juvenile was transported by EMT to Akron Children’s Hospital, and the owner of the dog was advised of the procedures after a dog bite incident.

— Officers responded to the 36000 block of Butcher Road at 9:12 a.m. Sunday to assist the Leetonia Fire Department with a rollover crash. Officers assisted until they were no longer needed.
