Salem

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday who needed a place to stay for the night. Officers advised them that there were no options available for the night, but that they could stay in the lobby for the night if they would like due to the lack of resources.

— Officers on patrol in the area of Howard Avenue and West Pershing Street at 11:19 p.m. Monday located a juvenile that was too young to be alone and had no shoes. The mother was located down the street coming from a business and advised of the issue, and that the responsibility of the child was ultimately hers if their older sibling could not watch them.

— Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 9:15 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that a man in a ski mask had forced a young juvenile into a vehicle. The caller had already left the area prior to officers’ arrival. Officers spoke with employees of a nearby business and were advised that the incident had occurred an hour before officers were notified. Nobody was wearing a ski mask, and that it appeared to just be a father leaving a juvenile having a tantrum. Due to the business being closed, officers will return to see if there is any security footage of the incident later.

— Officers responded to the 1500 block of East State Street at 8:41 p.m. Monday for a report of theft. The caller advised that their son had taken $300 in gift cards from his wife’s purse. Officers were given statements of the transactions and wanted charges against their son. The process for unruly juvenile charges was explained, and the case will be forwarded to the juvenile officer.

— Officers responded to a business in the 600 block of West State Street at 8:16 p.m. Monday for a reported person going through the dumpsters. Officers spoke with the person in question and advised them to get permission before doing so in the future.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 8:04 p.m. Monday for a reported person to be removed. The property owner requested the woman in question be trespassed from the property. Officers advised her of the same.

— Officers responded to the 2200 block of Kennedy Drive at 7:53 p.m. Monday for a reported 911 hang-up call. Contact was made with the resident, who advised that their juvenile daughter had accidentally dialed from an older cell phone.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Second Street at 7:07 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that they were cleaning the business and heard someone banging on the door. Officers observed the person in question to have already left the area, and the caller was advised of the same.

Perry Township

— Officers spoke with a man by phone at 4:05 p.m. April 21 about his food card being stolen in the city. Officers advised the man to contact the Salem Police Department about the incident.

— Officers responded to the area of state Route 9 and state Route 45 at 3:53 p.m. April 21 for a reported reckless operator. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the area of Johnson Avenue at 9:06 p.m. April 20 for a reported suspicious vehicle. Officers passed through and checked the surrounding area. The vehicle had left prior to arrival.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Harding Avenue at 2:51 p.m. April 20 for a reported aggressive dog at large which had killed a neighbor’s cat the night prior. One of the neighbors advised that they had video footage of the dog and were advised to send it to officers.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Blossom Lane at 9:02 a.m. April 20 for a reported assault on an employee the night prior. Officers found that an employee had come to work that day after being assaulted by a family member the previous night and was having a medical issue. EMT responded and transported the employee to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital main. Officers found that the assault had occurred in the city of Salem.
