Highway Patrol

— Caleb M. McGath, 29, Woodville Road, Leetonia, was cited for failure to yield turning left after his westbound vehicle on state Route 558 was starting to turn and was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by Rodney L. Jarvis, 43, Creston, W.Va. at 6:55 p.m. April 28 in Fairfield Township at Fairfield School Road. McGath suffered a suspected minor injury but wasn’t transported. Jarvis was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital by North Star EMS for suspected minor injuries.

— Anthony C. Blancato, 29, High Street, Leetonia, was cited for assured clear distance after his eastbound vehicle on U.S. Route 62 struck the rear of another eastbound vehicle driven by Jessica G. Martinelli, 31, Arch Street, Salem, causing her vehicle to strike the rear of an eastbound vehicle driven by William Allen Hoffman, 61, Bowman Road, Homeworth at 4:07 p.m. April 29 in Perry Township. No injuries were reported.

— Jacob T. Moore, 22, Youngstown, was cited for reasonable control after his southbound vehicle on U.S. Route 30 in Elkrun Township crossed the center line and struck a northbound vehicle driven by Nanette S. Sullivan, 64, Howard, at 7:14 p.m. April 30 and ran off the road and overturned. The Sullivan vehicle ran off the road to the right. Sullivan was transported by West Point Fire/EMS to East Liverpool City Hospital for suspected minor injuries.

Sheriff’s Office

— A deputy responded to a request for assistance at 1:53 p.m. Saturday from corrections officers at the Federal Correctional Institute Elkton in Elk Run Township where officers reported observing and detaining a Hispanic man dressed in camouflage clothing launching contraband onto federal property on Scroggs Road. The man, identified as Victor Manuel Diaz De Montes Oca, 34, Painesville, provided a Mexico identification. He was charged with criminal trespass and the contraband was seized by FCI Elkton staff with future federal criminal charges pending. The Immigration Control and Enforcement (ICE) agency was contacted in reference to the arrest. Diaz was being held in the county jail and appeared for arraignment in Columbiana County Municipal Court Monday morning. He entered a not guilty plea, with a pretrial set for May 18. He remains in jail under a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He was also ordered to stay away from FCI Elkton.

Leetonia

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 12:10 p.m. May 6 for a report of social media harassment. They advised that a person is making TikTok videos about her, her family, and neighbors and was continuing to do so despite being issued a cease-and-desist order.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of Park Street at 4:05 p.m. May 5 for a report of domestic violence. The caller advised that three people were fighting on the porch of a residence. Officers spoke with the resident who advised that she and her two granddaughters had been teasing each other over the phone and attempting to gain possession of it. There were no injuries and all parties advised of the same.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Columbia Street at 4:45 p.m. May 3 for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with the male half who advised that he and the female half had gotten into an argument about her potentially returning to her boyfriend’s house after they allegedly assaulted her the night prior. The female half was extremely intoxicated and advised that her boyfriend had assaulted her by striking her and dragging her down a flight of steps. Officers contacted a sergeant from the Columbiana Police Department as the alleged assault occurred in their jurisdiction.

— Stephanie Geary was cited for driving under suspension after a registration check showed her license to be suspended at 4:26 p.m. May 2.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Main Street at 2:57 a.m. May 2 for a report of two people arguing. Officers located four people inside a vehicle who advised that they were not arguing and had just been enjoying each other’s company. Officers found they were slightly under the influence of alcohol, and they contacted a ride to pick them up.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Main Street at 9:24 p.m. May 1 for a reported suspicious person. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the person in question.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Main Street at 8:54 p.m. May 1 for a reported dispute. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate involved parties.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Sugartree Avenue at 4:12 a.m. Monday for a report of two people looking inside a vehicle with flashlights. Officers spoke with the men, who advised they were getting some property out of the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 10:28 p.m. Sunday for an assist the public call. The caller advised there was a vehicle following very close to them while driving, and they were unsure about reaching their destination safely. Officers advised the caller that they would follow them to their location and ensured they arrived safely.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of West Pine Lake Road at 10:21 p.m. Sunday to conduct a follow-up investigation. Officers were unable to speak with the people in question.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Arch Street at 9:14 p.m. Sunday for a report of harassment. Officers provided the caller with the necessary information.

— Officers responded to the 8400 block of County Home Road at 9:17 p.m. Sunday to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office with a traffic stop. K-9 Fero was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotic odor coming from the vehicle.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West 16th Street at 5:45 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the man, and it was determined that it was best for the man to get treatment at the hospital and EMT transported the man.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 5:10 p.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious person. Officers spoke with the man in question, and everything checked okay.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of South Howard Avenue at 2:50 p.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious person. Officers spoke with the man who advised that he was acquainted with the prior tenant and had not been aware they moved out. After gathering information from them he was sent on his way.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street 112:59 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man looking into windows of vehicles and attempting to open the doors. Officers located the man sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle, who was intoxicated and advised that he went to the wrong truck. The person driving the vehicle was inside a grocery store at the time of the incident and the man was advised to stay in the vehicle until the driver returns.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 11:04 a.m. Sunday for a report of two people inside a truck. They advised that the dispute was verbal only, and no physical violence had occurred. Officers spoke with both parties and advised them to remain separated for the remainder of the night.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 7:05 a.m. Sunday for a reported combative patient. The fire department and EMT responded and the person in question was ultimately transported for further evaluation

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at11:51 p.m. Saturday for a report of criminal trespassing. Officers spoke with the person in question, Ariel Durham, 37, Salem, and took them into custody charged with criminal trespass and transported them to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 11:33 p.m. Saturday. They advised they did not need anything.

— Officers assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the police department with an OVI investigation at 10:35 p.m. Saturday. Officers conducted a breath test.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 7:41 p.m. Saturday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that that woman had been asked to leave several times and refused. Officers found the the woman sitting on the sidewalk on West Second Street. The owner of the bar filled out a criminal trespass form, and while the woman in question refused to sign the form, they were advised that if they returned, they would be arrested.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of East State Street at 7:06 p.m. Saturday for a reported juvenile problem. The caller advised that juveniles were chasing after cars when they were leaving the parking lot. Officers spoke with the juveniles and advised them to stop chasing cars.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of South Avenue at 5:48 p.m. Saturday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised that someone shot the windshield of their vehicle with a BB gun. Officers took photos of the damage and advised the caller that an extra watch would be posted for the address.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 5:10 p.m. Saturday for a reported dispute between two men. The caller advised that the men had been involved in a verbal altercation that had turned physical. Both men had already left the area prior to officers’ arrival, and officers advised the caller to contact them again if the men returned.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 12:10 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. Officers and the fire department responded, but the person in question was not home. A short while later, the person in question called the police department and advised that everything was okay and was not in town.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 11:59 a.m. Saturday for a report of a child left unattended in a vehicle. Before officers arrived, an adult came back out and drove away. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and spoke with a man who advised that the children were never left unattended and that a grandparent was sitting with them.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of South Broadway Avenue at 2:56 a.m. Saturday for a reported burglary alarm. Officers spoke with an employee, who advised that they had just locked everything up. After further investigation officers found that they had an active warrant and the employee Erin Hiles, 56, Salem, was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 2:47 a.m. Saturday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that they looked outside and saw somebody standing outside their back door and that they had seen them near their apartment a few days prior. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the person in question. Officers advised them that they would place an extra patrol in the area.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Jennings Avenue at 9:51 p.m. Friday for a wellness check. The caller advised that the juvenile’s mother dropped their child off at a location with no adult supervision and then left for Akron. Officers spoke with two adults at the residence, who were entrusted to babysit the juvenile while the mother was out of town. Officers also spoke with the mother over the phone, and everything checked okay.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 9:10 p.m. Friday for a wellness check. Officers were not needed, and it was found not to be a police matter.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 8:56 p.m. Friday for a reported neighbor dispute. The caller advised that a neighbor was seen on camera on their porch and that they wanted a report on file.

— Officers on patrol in the 1800 block of East State Street at 8:17 p.m. Friday observed a security officer from the Salem Regional Medical Center standing outside on the sidewalk with a woman. Officers checked on them and learned that the security had asked the woman to leave the premises due to her bothering a patient inside. Everything checked out okay and the woman left without issue.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 7:20 p.m. Friday for a reported scam. The caller advised that they had received a suspicious phone call from someone claiming to be their bank. The caller wanted a report on file.

— Officers spoke with a person by phone at 5:50 p.m. Friday about an ongoing custody issue over his son with the son’s mother. Officers were familiar with the case and spoke with them about the issue, and the caller hung up on them.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 4:59 p.m. Friday to assist with a combative patient. The individual allegedly had a psychotic episode and became violent, reportedly striking other patients. Officers assisted ambulance personnel with getting the individual onto a cot for EMT to transport them to another location for treatment.

— The school resource officers was advised by school administrators of an issue that had just occurred with a student and an outside agency at 2:33 p.m. Friday. They advised that they wanted the incident documented in case any further issues arose from it.

— Officers responded to the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East State Street at 1:15 p.m. Friday for a reported reckless operator. The caller advised that the vehicle was swerving all over the road. Officers located the vehicle and observed no signs of impairment from the driver. The driver advised that they were attempting to avoid potholes in the roadway.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East State Street at 11:54 a.m. Friday for a reported drive off. Officers responded and were advised that a red SUV had pumped $40 worth of gas and driven off. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
