Highway Patrol

— Vera L. Groves, 81, Chester, W.Va., was cited for failure to yield after her vehicle pulled from a private drive on state Route 7 in Fairfield Township at 7:03 p.m. May 12 and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Jolene L. Lacey, 38, West Main Street, New Waterford. No injuries were reported.

— Preston Cowdery, 25, Main Street, Wellsville, was cited for improper passing after his off-road vehicle started to make a left turn while being passed and was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Justin J. Anderson, 30, North Elm Street, Columbiana, on state Route 7 in Middleton Township at 4:40 p.m. May 9. No injuries were reported.

— Trudy L. Trotter, 64, Trotter Lane, East Liverpool, was cited for reasonable control after her southwestbound vehicle on state Route 170 in St. Clair Township traveled off of the right side of the road and struck a guardrail at 10:15 a.m. May 8. No injuries were reported.

— Leann L. Sheriff, 39, Canton, was cited for improper backing after her eastbound vehicle on state Route 172 at state Route 9 backed into an eastbound vehicle driven by Joshua Milat, 37, Sebring at 7:10 a.m. May 8 in Hanover Township.

— No injuries were reported during a hit/skip accident at 9:10 a.m. May 6 when a southbound vehicle on state Route 45 lost debris from its load which struck a northbound vehicle driven by Jennifer Whitman, 51, Hunters Camp Road, Lisbon.

— A 2-year-old passenger in a vehicle suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported by North Star Critical Care to Akron Children’s Hospital after a two-vehicle accident at 12:42 p.m. May 5 at the intersection of Lindy Lane and Y & O Road. A vehicle driven by Daniel A. Duke, 47, Moore Street, East Liverpool, was turning left to enter Lindy Lane while northbound on Y & O Road and was struck by a vehicle driven by Dakota T. Mitchell, 30, Moore Street, East Liverpool, who was attempting to pass in the intersection. Mitchell was cited for driving on left side. The child was a passenger in the Mitchell vehicle.

— Alyse R. England, 26, Leetonia Road, Leetonia, was cited for reasonable control after her northbound vehicle traveled off of the left side of Leetonia Road and struck a ditch and embankment at 3:24 a.m. May 5 in Salem Township. No injuries were reported.

— Matthew J. Ewing, 58, Waddell Street, Leetonia, was cited for operating a vehicle impaired after pulling into a private drive on Ridge Street, Leetonia and striking the rear of a vehicle owned by Slade L. Brandle, Ridge Street, Leetonia at 7:43 p.m. May 4. No injury was reported.

Sheriff’s Office

— An active alarm was reported at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday at Farmers National Bank, U.S. Route 62, Damascus, with all windows and doors found secure. Nothing suspicious was seen.

— An active alarm was reported at 12:53 a.m. Tuesday at XL Sand and Gravel, state Route 170, Middleton Township where workers running a water pump line nearby reported not seeing anyone around. The scalehouse and other buildings were found secure with nothing suspicious found.

— A deputy on routine patrol at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday located an occupied vehicle at Elkrun Park in Elkton, which is closed from dusk to dawn and marked with signs. The occupant said they were just enjoying the weather and the quietness of the park. She agreed to leave.

— An active alarm was reported at Chris Burkey Plumbing, state Route 170, Middleton Township at 11:28 p.m. Monday. All doors and windows were found secure.

— Deputies responded at 7:52 a.m. May 16 to a 911 call at state Route 39, Washington Township, with dispatch advising of a second call from a man who reported being assaulted by a woman. When deputies arrived and talked to the man at his vehicle, he said his friend woke up angry and starting swinging at him and struck him several times. Deputies attempted to make contact with the woman, who was refusing to open the door to the home. She finally came to the door after the man called and told her a deputy said she would be arrested if she didn’t come to the door. Deputies learned the man was the one who called 911 twice and the two were just friends with no children and no shared home. They signed refusals for assault and deputies stood by while the man gathered yard sale items and left.

— A woman on U.S. Route 62, Knox Township reported at 5:42 p.m. April 30 that a dress was stolen from her residence, then returned back to her by the person who took it. A theft warrant was issued for the responsible party.

— Duchess Shoppe, U.S. Route 62, Knox Township report a theft by an employee at 3:40 p.m. April 28. A warrant for theft was issued for the person.

— A deputy responded to a call at 8:43 p.m. Monday for a welfare check on Rose Drive, Lisbon. While en route, the deputy was able to reach the person by phone and was advised the person was fine and there was no need to respond.

— Suspicious activity was reported at JT’s Pit Stop, state Route 164, Wayne Township at 5:09 p.m. Monday. A deputy advised the person how to proceed.

— A deputy at 6:52 p.m. Monday returned a call to an East Liverpool resident regarding fraud, Desellem Road, Madison Township.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 2100 block of Pearce Circle at 5:26 a.m. Wednesday to assist the Boardman Police Department by speaking with the owner of a vehicle abandoned in their parking lots. Officers were unable to speak with the person.

— A suspicious vehicle was reported in the 2300 block of East State Street at 3:41 a.m. Wednesday. Officers located the vehicle behind with the occupants looking through dumpsters and they were advised to leave the area.

— Officers assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol with an OVI test at the police department at 2:11 a.m. Wednesday.

— A loud crashing sound was reported in the 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue at 12:09 a.m. Wednesday. The sounds were determined to be trucks loading and unloading equipment at a nearby manufacturing business.

— A suspicious odor was reported in the 900 block of East Fourth Street at 9:06 p.m. Tuesday. The caller advised that a man keeps smoking marijuana and they are allergic. Officers spoke with a man outside who advised that he was smoking and would be mindful of the neighbors next time.

— Officers checked a residence in the 400 block of Sharp Avenue for a person with an active warrant at 8:53 p.m. Tuesday. Officers were unable to speak with anyone at the residence.

— Officers responded to the 2000 block of Monroe Street at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of theft. The caller advised that their neighbor’s phone and checks had been stolen from her apartment. Officers gathered information and will investigate the matter.

— Officers checked on a report of a man in an electric wheelchair in the middle of the roadway at 7:18 p.m. Tuesday. Officers located the elderly man, who denied being in the roadway.

— A dog left in a vehicle in the 1000 block of North Ellsworth Avenue was reported at 5:41 p.m. Tuesday. The owner of the dog advised officers they had been outside every couple of minutes checking on the dog and that it had water in the front seat.

— Several people were reported to be yelling and arguing in the 300 block of Ohio Avenue at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday. Officers learned that an unruly juvenile was refusing to listen and a verbal altercation had occurred. During the altercation the juvenile made threats of self-harm and was subsequently transported to Akron Children’s Boardman by EMT for further evaluation.

— A barking dog was reported in the 100 block of East Third Street at 4:13 p.m. Tuesday. Officers did not hear any barking from the residence in question.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday regarding identity theft. They advised that their bank account had been frozen, and their bank advised them that a person had withdrawn $500 from their account at a branch in a different city twice.

Columbiana

— A city resident reported on station at 5:16 p.m. May 9 threats involving a family member.

— At 6:22 p.m. May 7, police took a report of theft from a vehicle in the Best Western parking lot. The items were found and no theft occurred.

— A complainant reported a scam in the 400 block of Firestone Avenue at 2:32 p.m. May 6.

— A woman reported on station at noon May 5 an incident of harassment.

— William Crawford, 48, New Middleton, was charged with carrying concealed weapons following a traffic stop in the 44000 block of state Route 14 at 2:19 a.m. May 3.
