Sheriff’s Office
— A caller at 12:04 a.m. Saturday from Waterford Road, Unity Township reported hearing loud noises in the back yard. A deputy responded and checked the premises and the neighbor’s property. Nothing suspicious was located.
— David A. Heddleston III, 51, and Heather Lee Sluss, 42, both listed as homeless, were taken into custody on charges of breaking and entering after a deputy was dispatched at 10:02 p.m. May 29 to a state Route 39, Yellow Creek Township property for a breaking and entering in progress at a vacant home. Both were taken to the Columbiana County jail.
— Suspicious activity was reported at 1:48 a.m. May 28 at Orchard Knoll Drive, Hanover Township, where a caller reported a neighbor’s garage door up and then closed a few times through the night. Deputies arrived and found the garage door open and lights on inside. Deputies attempted to make contact and found the door unlocked, then when preparing to enter, the garage door closed and then reopened. Deputies believed there was a short in the opener, checked the interior which appeared undisturbed and then secured the garage door and the rest of the residence.
— Deputies responded at 4:34 a.m. May 28 for a welfare check called in by a hotline for a resident on Failer Road, Unity Township. Deputies were unable to make contact. The call had come in earlier at 12:29 a.m., but deputies were tied up on other calls. The premises was found secure. Deputies were called to the same residence on May 16 for a man who called a hotline making comments of self harm and spoke to the resident, who was intoxicated and only wanted someone to talk to since he was depressed. He said he didn’t want to harm himself and appeared capable of taking care of himself.
Salem
— Officers checked on a 911 hang-up call in the 500 block of Walnut Street at 2:44 a.m. Wednesday. Officers learned that the caller was suffering from a seizure and the fire department and EMT were requested to assist them.
— Two people were reported arguing in the 500 block of Walnut Street at 11:11 p.m. Tuesday. Officers advised them to stay away from each other for the evening.
— A reckless vehicle was reported in the area of East State Street and South Union Avenue at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, advising the driver of the complaint and sent them on their way.
— Loud people were reported in the area of Waterworth Park and Superior Avenue at 10:28 p.m. Tuesday. Officers advised the people of the park hours, and they went on their way.
— A domestic in progress was reported in the 600 block of Woodland Avenue at 7:53 p.m. Tuesday. Officers spoke with the people involved and were advised that they had just been arguing over property.
— Two juveniles were reported behaving inappropriately at Sebo Stadium at 6:13 p.m. Tuesday. Officers separated the juveniles, and the parents of both were advised of the situation and that it could have resulted in criminal charges.
— A domestic in progress was reported in the 600 block of Woodland Avenue at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with both parties involved and were advised that no violence had occurred.
— Suspicious people were reported on a vacant property in the 1000 block of Homewood Avenue at 3:36 p.m. Tuesday. Officers checked the property and surrounding area but were unable to locate them.
— Officers stood by while the fire department forced entry into a residence in the 100 block of Washington Avenue at 1:54 p.m. Tuesday.
— A drive off was reported in the 900 block of East State Street at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The business was unable to give a license plate number for the vehicle nor a direction of travel. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle, and the business was provided with a report number.
— Officers checked on a resident who had not been seen by neighbors for an extended time in the 900 block of Newgarden Avenue at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday. Officers entered the residence due to the circumstances and found the man was deceased. The Columbiana County coroner was contacted and EMT transported them to the morgue.
— Criminal damaging was reported at a construction site in the 600 block of Legacy Lane at 9:54 a.m. Tuesday. The caller advised that multiple tools and a fence surrounding the site had been damaged. Officers took photos of the damage and advised them of security measures that could be taken.
