Norma J. (Fell) Althouse

Norma J. (Fell) Althouse, age 86, peacefully passed away while surrounded by friends and family at her home in Commerce Township, Michigan at 8:16 p.m. on July 21, 2021.

Norma was born and raised in Greenville, Pennsylvania, the youngest of 10 children. She met the love of her life, Lee Althouse, while she was working at Packard Electric, and Lee worked at Althouse Buick in Newton Falls, Ohio. They were married on November 10, 1956, and lived in the Salem, Ohio area until moving to Michigan in 2019.

Norma was an active member of the Damascus United Methodist Church, where she served on several committees over her 60 years of membership. She was also an active member of the United Commercial Travelers Council #590 in Salem, Ohio. She served on the Executive Committee for 8 years and as their First Lady of Ohio in 1985, while Lee was the Grand Counselor for the State of Ohio. Her hobbies included playing cards, playing and watching golf, traveling and spending time with her loving family. Norma’s favorite travel destination was Marco Island, Florida, where she and Lee spent 15 wonderful winters together.

Norma is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lee Althouse; three children and their spouses: Roger and Debbie (McAbier) Althouse, Nancy and Mark Kleinschmidt, and Patty and Gordon Mattix. She is survived by five grandchildren and their spouses: Traci and Aaron Cox, Cari Althouse, Sean Kleinschmidt, Katelyn and Jonathon Brading, and Kelly Mattix. One grandchild, Craig Althouse (1987-2015) preceded Norma in death. She will also be remembered and loved by her 4 great-grandchildren.

Norma’s arrangements are being handled by the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home of White Lake, Michigan. A celebration of Norma’s “Life Well Lived” will be held at a later date. Details to follow.

The Althouse Family would also like to extend a special “Thank You” to all the caregivers in Salem, Ohio and Commerce Township, Michigan for their great care and compassion over the past few years.
