SALEM - Okey Bailey Deavers, 90, died Feb. 5, 2023, of natural causes after a brief three week illness.
He was born July 2, 1932, in Morgantown, West "By God" Virginia to Okey Bailey Deavers Sr. and Kathleen Bowley Deavers. He was a proud Mountaineer and a 1954 graduate of West Virginia University. Okey also graduated from Kingwood High School in 1950 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Okey loved his wife of 68 years, Jean Deavers; as well as his children, Brad (Lisa) Deavers, Franklin, Ky., and Mishelle Deavers, East Liverpool. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara (George) Wilson, Hendersonville, Ga.; in-laws, Clark "Beau" and Barbara Brewer, Aiken, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Karl (Carrie) Deavers, Long Island, N.Y., and Robert (Sandy) Deavers, South Bend, Ind.
Okey enjoyed his work at Foster Wheeler as a project manager building fossil fueled boilers and related equipment for power plants. He worked in Mississippi, Ohio, New Jersey, the Philippines and China.
Following his retirement, he and his wife settled down in Salem. But not really, as they enjoyed their retirement visiting 49 states during their RV travels. While working overseas, they visited Bali, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries.
Okey loved all his homes living in eight states in total, but Salem was special in his heart because of all his neighbors on Highland Avenue. Especially the Ketchums, the Newmans and the Capels.
