David Layne Jenkins
1959-2023
David Layne Jenkins, born Aug. 20, 1959, the eldest child of Thurman Jenkins Jr. (1937-1967) and JoAnn Skelton McGuire (1941 – 1984), died at the age of 63, on March 23, 2023, in North Lima, Ohio. He battled cancer for years, undergoing two bouts of chemotherapy, and was tough through the end.
David was known by those closest to him to be the smartest, most loyal, reliable and fun person to be around. "When he would come around, it was like trumpets." He enjoyed loud guns and fast cars, and spent his life building both. Upon graduating from United Local High School in 1977, he went on to the Ohio Diesel Technical Institute in Cleveland Ohio, to become a certified diesel technician. After honorably serving in the US Army, he made a career as a heavy equipment mechanic.
He is survived by his parents, Tom and Caroline McGuire; his siblings, Steven Jenkins, Kim McGuire, Tracy Jenkins-Winn, Shelly McGuire-Wrask, and Thomas McGuire; his children, Mindy Jenkins, Crystal Olson, Chase Parrish, Cameron Spoon, Timothy Darrah, Andrew Jenkins, Elayna Jenkins, David Semon, Falanne Jenkins and Darten Jenkins; 13 grandchildren; his life-long best friend, Edna Jenkins; and finally, the woman he loved the most, who took care of him through his very last days, his loving and devoted wife, Candie.
He was preceded in death by his biological parents and two children, Scott Allen Jenkins and Breanne Olivia Jenkins. There will be no traditional funeral services; however, the family will hold a celebration of life in the near future. The family is thankful for all of the love, prayers, and support received over the last few years during David's battle with cancer.
