George C. Equizi
1927-2023
SARASOTA, Fla. --George C. Equizi passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida at the age of 95.
George was born on July 31, 1927 in Salem, Ohio. He was the son of the late Anthony and Maria (Nuccitelli) Equizi. George graduated from Salem High School in 1945. He served in the Army from 1945-1947.
George and his wife Marcia met while attending Ohio University. They were married for 73 years. He worked many years at the Farmers National Bank in Salem. George was also the Treasurer for the City of Salem for 15 years. He was an active member of the Elks, Jaycees, Salem Golf Club and the Italian American Club. They also were members of St. Paul Church.
George and Marcia moved to Florida in 1980. During his time in Florida, he worked at Barnett Bank, Macy's and Manheim Auto Auction. They loved living their retirement years in Florida enjoying the weather and spending time with many friends. Most importantly, George loved gathering his family together. When it came time to look for an assisted living facility, his only question for management was "did they have a room big enough for his whole family to meet for holiday dinners?"
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Enes Nanni.
George is survived by his wife Marcia and four children, Mark (Patricia Keefer) of Salem, Ohio, Ellen Hughes of Sarasota, Fla., Gregory (Jill) of High Springs, Fla., George (Amy) of Tampa, Fla. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to the Salem High School Alumni Association at 330 East State Street, Salem, Ohio 44460.
