Bob Jelen, 68, passed away June 22, 2023 at his home in Tennessee. Bob was born March 5, 1955 in Salem Ohio, son of the late Robert F. Jelen and Joan (Chulak) Jelen.
Bob was a 1973 graduate of Salem High School. He received a Bachelor of Engineering from General Motors Institute in Flint Michigan. He had a 30+ year career working in IT, first at various General Motors plants and then other EDS and BT contracts.
Bob was generous to a fault. He quietly supported many people who had fallen on hard times.
He maintained his friendships from Salem High School and co-workers throughout his life. He found humor everywhere and would regale family and friends with stories from "the movie version of life." He was the master of the written letter.
Bob is survived by his dear friend SJ Choi. He is survived by his sisters Jeanette (Mario) Garcia of Texas and Barbara Jelen of Georgia and his brother Bill (Mary Ellen) Jelen of Florida, as well as three nephews and a grand-nephew. He is survived by his former spouse, Wendy J. Wilson.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday June 28, 2023 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Crossville, Tennessee. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023 at Grandview Cemetery in Salem Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salem Alumni Association, Salesian Missions or Covenant House.
