Amanda Lynn (Woodyard) Douglass passed away at the young age of 43 after a long battle with breast cancer on March 30, 2023 at the Low Country Hospice House in Summerville, SC. Her husband Clinton and son Nathaniel were with her when she passed.
Amanda "Mandy" was born on May 30, 1979 a daughter of Marcia Lynn (Payne) Woodyard and Douglas Elden Woodyard of East Liverpool, Ohio. Amanda was raised in East Liverpool and Salem, Ohio. While growing up in her hometown of East Liverpool she attended K-5th grade at North Elementary and 6th and 7th grades at East Liverpool Middle School (Westgate).
As a youngster she was a member of the Bluebirds (Campfire Girls and Boys of America) and the former Olympic Village Gymnastics Club, where she enjoyed jumping on the trampoline. She won several medals and trophies at various meets.
Amanda and her family moved to Salem when she was 13 years old and she completed 8th grade at the former Salem Junior High School. She then moved on to the Salem Senior High School and graduated with the Class of 1997. While a student there, some of her activities included the Physics Club, Office Aide, S.A.D.D., T.A.C.T., Art Photography and Journalism. She worked on the Salem Quaker High School Newsletter. Upon graduating from high school, she received an S.E.A. (Salem Education Association) scholarship and then attended Kent State Salem Campus where she graduated with the Class of 2000, where she earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science/Radiologic Technologist. While residing in Salem some of her jobs included Salvation Army Bell Ringer, the Ice Cream Parlor, the former Lisbon Sparkle Market and Lemon Tree Gift Shop, the former Frost Top and the former Video Safari. Amanda also worked at Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio as an x-ray technician for a short time before moving to Bluffton, SC in 2001, where she pursued her career as a radiographer at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center at Hilton Head Island, SC. Amanda then met the love of her life, Clinton Scott Douglass and they were married on February 29, 2004 aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship "Mariner of the Seas" at Cape Canaveral, Fla.
They were married for 19 years. Amanda like to celebrate their anniversary on February 28th during non-leap years and Clinton preferred March 1st. Their beloved son Nathaniel Elden Douglass was born on July 24, 2005, on his dad's birthday.
Amanda left the medical profession in 2014 to home-school her son. She was able to see her efforts come to fruition during an early graduation ceremony held in her hospice room, organized by Nathaniel's teachers and dear friends.
Amanda's hobbies included oil painting, birdwatching, cooking, photography and writing. She always dreamed of writing books for children. Amanda loved cats and left behind two naughty ones for us to love.
From Hip Hop to Gospel, she had great taste in music, just ask her, and she knew the lyrics to "Ice, Ice Baby". Her two favorite songs were "Way Maker" by Sinach and Glen Campbell's "Gentle on My Mind".
The Lord was her light and it was evident in all who knew her. Truth was her pursuit and it made her wise beyond her years. Her pursuit in learning biblical Hebrew was finished as she met the Lord himself, maybe she still continues to learn each day in Heaven.
In addition to her parents, husband and son, she is survived by her devoted siblings – her sister Tara Renee Schurdell and her husband Todd of Sante Fe, NM; brother Jonathan Douglas Woodyard and his wife Megan and their son Zachary of Kettering, Ohio and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family (in-laws) and good friends.
Amanda was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Joseph and Peryl (Oliver) Payne of East Liverpool, Ohio and Isabelle (Ike) and Elden Woodyard of East Liverpool, Ohio and formerly of Beaver, Pa.
A special thank you to Amanda's sister-in-law Ramona Douglass for the loving care and attention she gave to Amanda during her time of need and to all others who helped Amanda and her family in any way during this difficult time.
A "Celebration of Life" was held for Amanda on April 10, 2023 (Easter Monday) at Saul's Funeral Home, Bluffton, SC. Amanda's friend Chaplain Stanford conducted the service. Burial followed at the Low Country Memorial Gardens, also in Bluffton, SC.
