Jean Carroll Brewer Deavers
1936-2023
SALEM - Jean Carroll Brewer Deavers died April 19, 2023, just 75 days after the love of her life, Okey Deavers, her husband of 68 years. They were meant to be together in this life and in Heaven.
A Presbyterian by faith, Jean was born Nov. 21, 1936, in Frankfort, Ky., to Scott J. Brewer and Louise Clark Brewer.
Jean and Okey started dating while attending Kingwood High School in West Virginia. She graduated in 1954 and they were married Jan. 9, 1955, thus beginning their adventurous life together.
Jean was a loving mom to her surviving children, Brad (Lisa) Deavers of Franklin, Ky., and Mishelle Deavers of East Liverpool, Ohio. She is also survived by her brother, Clark "Beau" (Barbara) Brewer of Aiken, S.C.; and sisters-in-law, Barbara (George) Wilson of Hendersonville, N.C., and Sandy Deavers of South Bend, Ind.; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lee Scott "Buck" Brewer, and his son, Zachary Brewer of Lexington, Ky. She was also preceded in death by her best friend, Carol Truzzie of Columbiana, Ohio.
Jean worked at the credit bureau in East Liverpool, Ohio, for many years before opening the Clay Horse Ceramic Shop. In the 1980s Okey started working overseas and they moved to the Philippines. The Philippines were Jean's favorite place to live. It was there that they both became certified scuba divers, diving all over the South Pacific Ocean. They were blessed to eventually dive the Great Barrier Reef with Brad, Lisa and Mishelle. The couple eventually moved to China, where Jean enjoyed being a most gracious host holding fabulous dinners. Jean and Okey made wonderful friendships while in China and were able to continue those via the Shanghai Landers Expatriate Club, traveling all over the world and the United States for those reunions.
In Jean's last year a special Angel came into her life, Amanda McFarland. Amanda was more than a caregiver; she was a God send and a loving friend who often called Jean her soulmate. The family wants to thank Larry Truzzie, a longtime family friend, who visited Jean often and made a difficult time better. The family also wants to thank Community Hospice for the extraordinary and loving care they gave Jean at the end of her life.
Jean never met a stranger, and she will be sadly missed by many including her cat, Patches.
She was interred at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort, Ky.
Arrangements were handled by Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
