SALEM -- Earl G. Harsh Jr., 82, passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 21, 2024, at his residence in Salem with his loved ones by his bedside.
Earl was born on July 23, 1941, in Canton, the son of the late Earl G. and Esther (McCullough) Harsh Sr.
Earl was a 1960 graduate of United Local. He was a resident of the Winona and Salem area for most of his life. A lifelong Tool and Die Maker, Earl worked for Monarch Products in Minerva before owning and operating his own machine shop, Precision Machine Products Inc in Winona. He retired from PCC Airfoils in Minerva. Earl was also the owner and operator of the Columbiana Dairy Queen.
Earl was a member of the Winona Ruritan, the Winona Volunteer Fire Department, and served on the United Local School Board of Education. He along with his wife Ruth received the United Golden Eagle Award. Earl was involved in the Winona Flax Scutching Festival for many years, served in many areas of and attended Winona Friends Church.
Earl is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Harsh (Althouse), whom he married Aug. 3, 1962; three daughters, Lori Dunn and her husband Glen, Lisa Bates, Lyne Mercer and husband Rick; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as his "Bonus Family," Steve Leggett, Tori Arndt, and Michael and Carson Bowman.
Besides his parents, Earl Sr. and Esther Harsh, Earl was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley N. Bates; two brothers, Larry and Homer James Harsh; in-laws Elmer (Nick) Althouse and Carl and Helen (Althouse) Gamble.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winona Friends Church Youth and/or Children's Ministries, c/o Winona Friends Church, 4615 Whinnery Road, Salem, Ohio 44460 in Earl's name.
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. at Winona Friends Church on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at the church where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with Pastor Dan Hepner officiating. Burial will follow at Woodsdale Cemetery at Guilford Lake.
