Jack W. Render, 84, of Copeland Oaks, formerly of Salem, Iva, S.C., and Alliance went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 14, surrounded by family
He was born Aug. 1, 1939 in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of the late Rita Wright and the late Wilson Render.
He married Janice Rutherford in Lapeer, Michigan, on June 11, 1960, and they moved from Michigan to Ohio in 1970 for his employment at GM – Lordstown, to Iva, S.C., in 2009 after retiring and then Alliance Ohio in 2020.
Jack was a proud Conservative Army Veteran, stationed in the U.S. and Germany from 1958-1961.
He was employed for 30 years with General Motors, starting in Flint, Michigan and finishing at Lordstown, Ohio, retiring Sept. 1, 1992.
He graduated from University of Michigan - Flint with an Associates in Business and Computer Sciences in 1971, and received a BA in Business Management at Malone University, Canton, Ohio in 1987.
He attended Alliance First Friends Church, Alliance, Ohio. He was Chaplain and a speaker for the Gideons to churches while in Iva, S.C. In Ohio, he was a lay speaker to churches, groups and led numerous Bible studies.
Next to the Lord, his one great passion was working with young people and was a Little Eagles coach, 8th Grade football, Varsity Track official and any other areas where needed in the sports programs at United Local Schools. He also enjoyed hunting and golfing.
On Feb. 16, 1997, he received a Meritorious Award from the Ohio High School Athletic Association, for outstanding service as a registered official, was also given a plaque from the Mahoning Valley Basketball Officials Association in recognition of serving for 15 years.
Jack is survived by his wife, Janice Render; daughter, Renee Render McCallum, Iva, S.C.; son, David Render of Alliance; granddaughters, Olivia Render, Alliance, Dr. Laura (Hobey) Tam, Six Mile, S.C., Anna (Mackie) Phillips, Hendersonville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, R.J. and Salem Phillips; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren by choice, Kirstie (Ben) Williamson, Annika, Lucas and Landon and TJ (Shelley) Rosenberg, Tenley and Ripken. He is also survived by brother, Bud (Ruth) Render, Brown City, Mich.; sister, Beverly Sohn of North Branch, Mich.; and an incredible friend, Dan McLaughlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Render, Rita Wright and Worda Wright; a daughter, Jeannine Render; and brothers-in-law, Glenn Sohn and Bill Rutherford.
Calling hours will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow directly after calling hours with Pastor Pete Fowler officiating.
Private burial will be in Attica Township Cemetery, Attica, Michigan.
