SALEM -- Private services were held for Jeannette M. Hilliard, 95, of Salem who passed away on Thursday evening, Jan. 11, 2024.
Jeannette was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Salem, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Grace) Jennings Sr.
She was a 1949 graduate of Salem High School and was employed as a presser at American Laundry before working as a clerk at Rae's Farm Market. Over the years Jeannette was involved with 4-H, GSA, and the Perry and The National Grange. She was also a member of the Salem First Christian Church.
Jeannette was the beloved wife of Raymond L. Hilliard Sr., whom she married on March 25, 1950. She is also survived by her son, Wayne J. Hilliard; daughters, Mary (the late Alan) Nelson, and Judith (John) Pesta; sisters, Dora Bergman and Kay Lynn Chamberlin, both of Arizona, Nicolena Miles of Lisbon, Sharon (Tom) Peterson of California; brothers, Henry Jennings Jr. of Alabana; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Iva Jeanne (the late Paul) Handwork; two sons, Raymond Hilliard Jr. and James W. Hilliard; sister, Mary Breault; and four brothers, Joseph Jennings, Charles Jennings, Samuel Jennings and Richard Jennings.
Arrangements were being handled by Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
