SALEM - Andrew J. Kemats Jr., 92, of Salem, passed away at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024. Andrew was born on June 26, 1931, in West Point, the son of the late Andrew and Margaret (Leskovinski) Kemats Sr.
Andrew went to West Point school. He got drafted to the Army in 1952 but was honorably discharged. At a young age he learned to play the accordion and became quite good at playing. He and his band played in some big ballrooms (frequently at the Avon Oaks in Girard), dances, weddings, graduation parties, and were well known in the area. He worked at Hunt Valve in Salem for 33 years and retired in 1995.
He is survived by his son, Robert Kemats of Salem, daughter Pamela Reid of Salem, daughter Beverly (Mike) Koran of Salem, and son Mark (Lori) Kemats of Salem; his three grandkids Michelle Reid, Brandon Smith, and Blade Kemats; his two great-grandkids, Autumn and Eloise; and his sister, Barbara Fortney.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Timothy Reid; his grandson, Brian Smith; his brother, John Kemats; his sister, Pauline Penkava, and sister, Marcella Gabriel.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Following Andrew's wishes no funeral service will be held.
