Carol Lehwald Horton passed away peacefully and entered the kingdom of heaven at the age of 83 on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, at Aultman Hospital, Canton, Ohio, surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 7, 1940, in Salem, Ohio, to the late Dr. Carl and Caroline Lehwald. She was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church.
Carol was a 1958 graduate of Salem High School. In 1960, Carol married Larry Horton and continued her education and graduated from Mt. Union College. Over the years, she taught first grade in Alliance, Ohio, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and ended her teaching career in Canton, Ohio at Avondale Elementary. She was an excellent teacher and loved by her students and fellow colleagues.
She was admired for her warm, kind, gentle nature and her immense generosity. Never an unkind word toward others, anyone entering her home was always greeted with a warm and friendly smile.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Caroline, (Jim) Kast of Alliance, Ohio, and son Cris Horton of Canton. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Krisanne (Josh) Lawson, Carl (Jaimie) Blaine, both of Canton, Jimmy Kast of Alliance, Ohio and Cara Kast of St. Petersburg, Fla.
She deeply loved her great-grandchildren, Hunter and Brielle Lawson, Presley and Paxton Blaine, all of Canton, Ohio. Also surviving are her brother, Jim (Sue) Lehwald of Salem, and a sister, Karen (Tasi) Carter of Salem, as well as her nephews Jimmy (Heather) Lehwald and Grant Lehwald of Salem.
She was a wonderful and devoted aunt to her nieces Sarah Carter of Canton, Michigan, and Carrie Carter Klimkowicz of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at Gordon Funeral Home in Canton, Ohio, 1803 Cleveland Ave. NW. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, with a service at noon. Burial will immediately follow at Grandview Cemetery in Salem, Ohio .
