Francis George ‘Frank’ Matiscik

1942-2024

EAST ROCHESTER -- Francis George "Frank" Matiscik, 81, of East Rochester, formerly of Austintown Township, passed away early Tuesday, morning Feb. 13, 2024, at Hospice House.

Frank was born on April 22, 1942, in Youngstown, the son of Frank and Amelia (Repasky) Matiscik.

Francis was a 1960 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and was a sergeant in the U.S. Army serving two years in Germany. He worked at First Energy – Ohio Edison for 37 years retiring in 2001 as a Line Foreman. He enjoyed his retirement spending winters in Florida. Prior to First Energy, Frank worked as installer with General Telephone. He was a former member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown and was currently attending Salem First Presbyterian.

Frank leaves his wife, the former Ellen Speidel Knizat whom he married on April 25, 1998; two daughters, Mary Lynn Jackson and her husband, Terry of Salem, and Susan Martin and her husband, Michael of Lyons, Colorado; two stepsons, Steve Knizat and his wife, Dawn of Salem, and Todd Knizat and his wife, Joann of Lewes, Delaware; five grandchildren, Maggie (Brian) Flesche, Sarah (Kyle) Guillette, Captain Roger Knizat, Landrey Knizat, Tenley Jackson; and five great-grandchildren, as well as one sister, Amelia Douglass of North Lima.

Besides his parents, Frank and Amelia, Francis was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Carol Papale, whom he married May 16, 1970, she passed away Jan. 5, 1996. Friends and family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, at the Salem First Presbyterian Church where services will be held at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. Doctor Frank Lewis, Rev. Trina Lewis and Rev. Meta Cramer officiating.
