Susan Cull Farrington was born on Dec. 12, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland, but grew up in Salem, Ohio as the daughter of the late Evelyn Cull (nee Hume) and George Ewing Farrington. She married her life's love, Phillip Slattery, on June 10, 1980.

Susan completed high school at the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., graduating in 1959. She then attended Connecticut College where she graduated in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science.

During the summer of 1960, she participated in a precursor to the Peace Corps, where she lived with different families in India and met Indira Gandhi herself. Susan's first job was with the U.S. State Department, which saw her travel to Asia and Central America. She interacted with many beltway politicians in the day, even dancing with President L. B. Johnson. Susan's career in government spanned over 30 years and allowed her to train management teams in the U.S. State Department, Patent Office, Labor Department, and Census Bureau from which she retired in 1995. Susan met her life's love, Philip Slattery while working at the Labor Department, who she married in 1980.

Besides coaching co-workers, friends and family in leadership, Suzy was passionate about travel and cards. She was fascinated by the people and culture when she visited the many countries in Europe and Asia. Wherever Suzy was, she loved playing cards with family and friends, especially bridge, which she mastered and became a top player.

She is survived by three of her late husband's children: Lori and Robert Krolikowski; Colleen and Sean Conley; Kim and Steve Davis; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; as well as her brother-in-law, John (Robin) Buta; her niece Sally (Michael Scott) Buta; nephews Ewing (Jill) Buta, Bob (Rebecca Guappone) Buta, Jock (Susan) Buta; and grand-nieces and -nephews: Douglas Mondell, Ross Mondell, Gray Buta, Hanuman Vakil, Isabel Scott, Hunter Buta, Reed Minto and Eva Minto.
