SALEM - John "Jack" Spencer, 80, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 17, 1944, in Beaver Falls, Pa., son of the late Frank and Mary Spencer.
Jack was a 1962 graduate of Hopewell High School. He then attended Geneva College, graduating in 1966 with a degree in engineering. Jack later received his master's degree in business in 1978 from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked in engineering, management and sales at various companies designing and building equipment for the basic metals industries. He retired from Butech Bliss of Salem in 2010.
Jack was an avid reader, loved to travel and hike, especially in the Grand Canyon and loved his 1967 Austin Healey.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, whom he married Jan. 19, 1974; sister-in-law, Margaret Kern; niece, Jacqueline (Eric) Geiselhart, and his nephew, Dr. Mark Mathias. He will be missed by his cats and corgis, Ben and Jerry.
Besides his parents, his sister, Janet Mathias and nephew, Jack Mathias also preceded him in death.
There will be no calling hours.
His favorite charities were Angels for Animals and Cleveland Clinic.
