1929-2024

SEBRING — Arthur W. Votaw, a cherished patriarch, community stalwart, and decorated Army veteran, passed away peacefully in Alliance, on Oct. 23, 2024, at the grand age of 95. Born on June 9, 1929, in Salem, Arthur led a full, vibrant life dedicated to his family, country, and community.

After graduating from Salem High School in 1947, Arthur honorably served as a medic in the Army during the Korean War, evidencing his bravery and commitment to serving others. Returning home, he began a noble 32-year career with the Salem Fire Department, from which he retired in 1985. He also was known by many for his friendly presence as a deliveryman for Endres-Gross Florist, where he worked for several years.

Arthur was a devoted member of the Salem First Presbyterian Church, where he found strength and fellowship. His faith was a testament to his character, inspiring those who knew him.

Predeceased by his parents, Denton and Mary (Urmetz) Votaw; daughter, Jill Ann Molnar; granddaughter, Angie Horvath; and his siblings, Margaret Balsley, Kathryn Sanfrey, Helen Votaw, Dorothy Allison, Pat Shasteen, and Albert Votaw, Arthur’s legacy is carried forward by a loving family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Gladys (Wright) Votaw, whom he married on Feb. 8, 1952; sons, Alan (Darlene) Votaw, Jeffrey (Dorothy) Votaw; son-in-law, Rick Molnar, nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom will dearly miss his wisdom, humor, and warmth.

Arthur’s life story is a tapestry of dedication, honor, and love. His memory will remain a guiding light to all the lives he touched. A remarkable man, Arthur W. Votaw’s life was truly a journey of purpose and heartfelt relationships. His passing marks the end of an era, but his spirit will forever dwell in the hearts of his family and community.

Calling hours will be one hour prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at Salem First Presbyterian Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Dr. Frank Lewis and the Rev. Annie Parker. Burial will take place at Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Salem First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
