John D. Polshaw
1944-2024
John D. Polshaw, 80, of Salem, Ohio, passed away on Dec. 25, 2024. He was born on Aug. 5, 1944, in Steubenville, Ohio.
John graduated from Steubenville Central High School and continued his education at Kent State, West Liberty and Youngstown State universities. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master of Science degree in Education. Over a distinguished 35-year career in education, he served as a teacher, coach and principal at Springfield Edison, United and East Liverpool High Schools.
An accomplished athlete, John played football, basketball and track in high school. He went on to play football for Kent State University, where his talent earned him numerous accolades and invitations from various professional football teams.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marylou Polshaw, and his son, Daniel Garrett Polshaw.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Diane Polshaw, and his brother, Joseph Polshaw.
A proud Army veteran, John served six years in the military. He was also a lifetime member of several organizations, including the Benevolent Order of Elks, the Italian Club, AMVETS, the Independent Hose Clubs, the Knights of Columbus, and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
Friends and Family will be received Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Stark Memorial.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church.
John will be buried at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville.
