Roger L. Gall
Roger L. Gall
1947-2025
Roger L. Gall, a cherished husband, dad, papa, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at Salem Regional Medical Center in Salem, Ohio. Born on March 14, 1947, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to the late George W. and Anna E. (Cooper) Gall.
A proud graduate of United High School in 1965, Roger furthered his education at the Salem School of Technology, now known as Kent State University, where he earned an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering. His career began at Republic Steel in Youngstown, but it was on the railroad where he found his true calling. Roger worked diligently as a foreman and repair man, dedicating his skills to Conrail, which later became Norfolk Southern. He retired in 2002.
His love for muscle cars was more than just a hobby; it was a part of who he was. His collection of Mustangs was a source of pride and joy, and he could often be found at car shows or racing with friends at Quaker City Raceways. He also had a passion for football, where he coached the United Little Eagle Bantam football team for 13 years. Roger was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, relishing the opportunity to watch the games live each fall.
Family was the foundation of Roger’s life. He married his beloved wife, Lois A. Gall (Graber), on April 3, 1971, and together they raised a family that was the center of his world. His children, Steve (Sandy Smosarski) Gall and Mandy (Jason) Humphreys, were his pride and joy, and his grandsons, Hayden and Holden Humphreys, brought him immeasurable happiness. Roger’s love for his family shone brightest during their annual vacations to Myrtle Beach, a 39-year tradition that he treasured very much.
Roger’s siblings, Frank (Virginia) Gall and Nancy (Tom) Crawford, will remember him as a loving and supportive brother. His ability to fix anything was legendary; he was the neighborhood mechanic who never hesitated to lend a hand, often refusing payment for his services. His knack for diagnosing and repairing anything made him a valued member of his community.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Kampfer, and brother, David Gall.
Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Roger’s life on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Stark Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Tim Ginter. Roger will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lugibihl, Dr. Paumier, the entire staff at Salem Regional Hospital, and the Community Hospice team for their exceptional care and support during Roger’s final days.
