SALEM — Archie Ewell Crum, 83, passed away on March 3, 2025, at Salem Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Archie was born May 8, 1941, in Omar, West Virginia, a son of the late George W. Crum and Pauline Crum Eversole. He graduated from Logan High School in 1959. Archie lived in the Salem area for 59 years.

Archie worked in Cleveland at Mashallen Mfg. Plant before moving to Salem. His move to Salem was with the opening of the Lordstown General Motors Plant in 1966. Archie retired in 1998 after 32 1/2 years in the plant. He had also been a team member of the Traveling Softball Team of the Lordstown Assembly Plant.

Archie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salem. As a member of the church, he served as a Deacon, coached boys and girls softball teams and was a Presbees youth group helper.

Archie was an avid golfer and was a member of the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club and belonged to the UAW Retirees Golf League at Old Dutch Mill, Lake Milton. Archie had three holes-in-one to brag about: two holes-in-one at Salem Hills Golf and Country Club on hole #3 and hole #8, and at Old Dutch Mill on hole #8. Archie was “B Flight” champion at Salem Hills in 2000 and Champion of the Senior Flight in 2013, 2015 and 2016. The highlight of his golfing years was to attend the Masters in 2009 in Augusta, Georgia with friends.

Archie was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, Lodge #305 of Salem and the Salem Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Archie enjoyed golfing, boating, pitching horseshoes, playing euchre, and spending time with his family on memorable vacations in Deep Creek, Maryland. In recent years he enjoyed spending some time in Ponce Inlet, Florida.

Archie is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rosie Adkins and June Augustine; brothers, Harold Crum and Ralph Crum; and stepfather, John Eversole.

Memories of Archie will be carried on by his wife, Nancy. Together they shared 62 years of marriage. Archie is survived by their daughters, Denise Haley of East Sparta, and Marsha (fiance Matt Bogunia) Blackburn of Salem; two grandchildren, Danton Blackburn and Jessica Haley. Also surviving are his sister, Sharon Crum of Niles, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2025, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, an Elks Service will follow at 7 p.m. There will also be calling hours from 11 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 8, 2025, with a funeral service led by Rev. Annie Parker to immediately follow at noon at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery.
