Tim Baillie passed away peacefully surrounded by family March 12 at Hospice House due to complications from cancer.
Tim was born in Salem on Oct. 21, 1950 to the late George W. and Margaret K. Baillie. He was a 1968 Salem High School graduate where he was a wrestler and football player. He was a graduate of Wittenberg University College of Business, and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Cynthia Baillie Perrault and sister-in-law Jayne Elizabeth Kramer.
Tim is survived by his wife Carol Kramer Baillie. They met at YMCA Camp Fitch in the 1960s and were married April 3, 1976. He is also survived by his son Bradley Nelson (Nadiann) of Westerville and daughter Katherine Jayne (Derek) of Columbus. His greatest joy was being “Pop” to Alexander and Naomi Baillie and Mae Baillie White.
Tim is also survived by his brothers Chip and Andy (Ree), brother-in-law Nels (Susan) Kramer and sister-in-law Joni (Mark) Catlos. His family was the center of his life. He took a genuine interest in his children and their interests and activities. He coached their t-ball, baseball, softball, and church league basketball teams. He was an assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 2. Tim was an avid outdoorsman enjoying skiing, biking and camping over the years. Camp Fitch was a big part of his life as well as his family’s. He was a camper growing up and joined the Camp Fitch staff as a counselor, Riflery director, and Canadian canoe trip director. Tim helped build the “Friend Circle” amphitheater for Camp Fitch’s Centennial Celebration in 2014. Tim was a faithful volunteer for Columbiana County Habitat for Humanity since the 1990s. The highlight of his affiliation with Habitat for Humanity was going to Leogane, Haiti with the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in 2011 and 2012 to build homes after a devastating hurricane.
Tim spent his career as a manufacturers’s rep, then in sales and estimating for Tolson Comfort Systems before retiring.
Later in life, Tim enjoyed substitute teaching in Salem City Schools. He kept score for the Salem Wrestling team and volunteered at the Salem Library.
Tim wished to donate his body to medical research at the Cleveland Clinic. A celebration of his life will be held this summer.
