Matthew Charles ‘Berto’ Bertolette

1985-2025

Matthew Charles “Berto” Bertolette, 9, passed away on June 18, 2025, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. Born on June 28, 1985, in Salem, Ohio, Matt lived a life marked by passion, dedication and deep connections with those around him.

A proud 2004 graduate of Columbiana High School, Matt was a dedicated athlete who played both football and baseball. In 2013, he earned his CDL from TDDS Technical Institute, pursuing a passion for the open road. For the past decade, he drove for Ed Wilson and Sons Trucking, a company that became more than just an employer; they were like family to him. Matt truly loved his job and often expressed how he was “proud to be a truck driver.” His strong work ethic and pride in his profession were evident to all those who knew him. Matt’s love for bowling began early in life as he followed his parents through countless bowling alleys. At just 10 years old, he bowled his first perfect 300 game, a remarkable achievement at any age. Over the years, he bowled multiple 300 games and several 800 series, and competed in numerous tournaments and shared many victories, with his parents who were always cheering him on from the sidelines.

He was an enthusiastic supporter of Ohio sports, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes, proudly shouting “OH-IO!” at every opportunity. In the summers, Matt cherished time spent on the golf course playing in league alongside his dad, creating memories that reflected their strong and meaningful bond.

Matt is survived by his father Jeffrey (Elaine) Bertolette; his mother Robin Seachrist; uncle Chris Seachrist; his step-siblings Damien Hamilton and Hailie (Darryk) Morrow; and Ron Guy; many cousins; several close and special friends and countless other friends and loved ones whose lives were touched by his generous spirit and kind heart.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Jack and Carole Bertolette and Dale and Martha Nell Seachrist. Those who knew Matt will remember his infectious smile, unwavering loyalty and generous nature. In keeping with his giving spirit, Matt made the selfless decision to be an organ donor, offering the gift of life to others even after his passing.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Amron Lanes, 492 W. Main St., Canfield, OH 44406. We invite all who knew and loved Matt to join us as we honor his life and the joy that he brought to so many. In his honor, please wear Ohio State attire (or colors) or your favorite bowling shirt, two of the things that brought him so much happiness.

May Matthew’s memory be a blessing and a reminder of a life lived with heart, humor and deep devotion.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
