Dean D. Hahn

1937-2025

The earthly struggle has ended for Dean D. Hahn of North Lima, Ohio, who joined his parents and several siblings in eternal rest, or mischief, on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Born in his family home on Aug. 12, 1937, Dean grew up on Earl Avenue on Youngstown’s South Side and attended Youngstown South High School. Shortly after entering the workforce, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1960. After his military service, he joined the International Union of Operating Engineers local 66 out of Pittsburgh, and worked in construction and millwork until his retirement in 1995. He then filled that time with volunteer efforts with two local food banks and enjoyed tour bus trips to nearby attractions and casinos until his health declined. Even then, he never saw an opportunity to help someone that he did not take, and he enjoyed sharing sweets and chatting with customer service workers and medical staff wherever he went.

He is survived by siblings John of Boardman, Carol of Clermont, Florida, Sondra of Sandusky, and Norm of Boardman, as well as over 30 nieces and nephews, and his daughter Becky of Saint Louis, Missouri, and his wife of 62 years, Shirley (Kloss) Hahn. A memorial service will be held at a future date, as dictated by Shirley’s health.

Arrangements are by the Kirila Funeral Home Inc. in Struthers.
