Deborah ‘Debbie’ K. Stewart

SALEM — Deborah “Debbie” K. Stewart, 70, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2025, at Mercy Health Youngstown in Youngstown, Ohio. Born in Columbus, Ohio on June 11, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Barnes and Jo Ann (Vignere) Barnes Reichenbach. Debbie’s warm spirit and joyful demeanor touched the lives of everyone she met.

Debbie was the beloved wife of the late James William Stewart, whom she married on April 20, 1974. Their loving union continued until James’s passing on Sept. 26, 2013.

A 1973 graduate of Salem High School, Debbie furthered her education at Kent State University, where she earned a degree in Business Administration in 2003. She enjoyed a fulfilling career and retired from American Standard in 2014.

Known for her devout faith, Debbie was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she served her community as a Eucharistic Minister. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her kindness and the care she showed to those around her.

An avid reader, Debbie found great joy in the pages of books, which were her companions and gateways to worlds of knowledge and imagination.

Debbie’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her loving family, including her daughter, Melissa (Adam) Kress of Morganton, N.C.; her grandchildren, Blake William and Karson James Kress; and her brother, Kenneth (Mary) Barnes of Strongsville. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at Stark Memorial.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her honor at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, where she devoted so much of her time and heart. Following the service, Debbie will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery, joining her beloved husband, James.
