Jack W. Kothera

Jack W. Kothera, 85, of Salem, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Aug. 10, 2025.

Born in Middlefield, Ohio, Jack was a lifelong craftsman with a love for American history and the outdoors. He collected and refinished antiques, forged metal, tied fishing flies, and enjoyed hunting and camping. He also participated in Civil War encampments, where he combined his love of storytelling with his passion for the past.

Early in his career, Jack worked with the American Society of Metals before eventually settling in Salem. There, he enjoyed retirement alongside his wife, Elaine Rousseau-Kothera, and was an active member of Salem First Methodist Church.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and James Kothera. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; brothers, Jerry and Ken; his children, Edward Kothera and Billi (Kothera) Rakov; his grandchildren; and great-grandchild.
