Walter D. Pim

1938-2025

SALEM – Walter D. Pim, 87, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at his home in Salem, Ohio.

Walter was born on May 24, 1938, in Salem, Ohio, to the late Loren and Mellessa (Votaw) Pim. He graduated from Salem High School in 1956.

Walter joined the United States Navy in 1958 and worked as an electronics technician on the USS Shangri-La and USS Intrepid aircraft carriers. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1962, he worked as an electronics technician and computer programmer for several companies including IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY, Industrial Nucleonics in Columbus, OH, and OCLC in Dublin, OH.

In September of 1959, Walter married the love of his life, Myrna Dunn. Over the 66 years of marriage, they created many unforgettable memories together. They started a family and watched that family grow year by year.

Walter was a quiet and thoughtful man; he was always involved in his community and church. He was a member of the Greenford Ruritans, the Mission Aviation Fellowship, volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, as well as the Ohio Forestry Association. Walter was raised and attended the First Friends Church in Salem in his younger adult years. He then was active later in life at his beloved church, Greenford Lutheran, serving where he was needed. He enjoyed being a part of the church choir and the men’s group.

Walter loved nature and all it had to offer. The beauty of the outdoors brought him a deep sense of peace.

Walter leaves behind his wife, Myrna Pim, his sons, Mark (Jeanne) Pim, Philip (Irene Sobe) Pim, his daughter, Sharon (Keith Joffe Sr.) Osborne, and his sisters, Lorene Culotta, Jeanne (Wayne) Wilson, and Marge Dustman. He will be deeply missed by his five grandchildren, Ashley (Michael) Rea, Sarah (Robert) Baker, David (Jojo) Pim, Aurora (Eli) Davidson, John Pim, and John’s mother, Elizabeth Pim. Walter’s life and legacy will continue through his six great-grandchildren, Emma Rose Rea, Daisy Rea, James Rea, Robert Baker, Zachary Baker, and Nora Pim, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him deeply.

A memorial service for Walter will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Greenford Lutheran Church, located at 7450 W. South Range Rd., Greenford, OH 44422. Immediately following the memorial service, family and friends are invited for a time of fellowship and light lunch at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Greenford Lutheran Church.
