SALEM — With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Jason (Donald) Swiger, surrounded by his loving family after his courageous battle with cancer, on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at the age of 50. The unwavering love and profound impact he had on his family and community will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Jason is survived by the love of his life, his wife Gwen. Their beautiful life together began 35 years ago/26 years of marriage, a true testament of love. Jason was most proud of his sons, Tyson and Caden. They will honor his memory by embodying the love and strength he instilled in them, as Jason always focused on setting the utmost example for them. His love, strength, and compassion will live on through his sons forever.

A 1993 graduate of South Range Schools, Jason continued his education and passion for football at Westminster College, where he played and earned his degree in Mathematics. He dedicated his career of 27 years to teaching math at United Local Schools, where he was regarded as a teacher loved by all. Jason also passionately shaped the lives of countless young men as an Offensive Line Coach, sharing his love of football. He had the privilege of coaching for United Local Schools, South Range, and dedicating the past 12 years to Salem Schools. He also coached track for many years at United Local. Through coaching, he inspired and shaped the lives of young men who looked up to him, leaving behind a profound legacy.

Jason leaves behind his beloved grandfather, Ed Champion, and his brother, Loney Swiger and his wife Michelle, whom he loved dearly and always looked up to. He is also survived by many other family members and friends who will miss him so much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Cindy Swiger.

A Tribute Service to honor the life of Jason Swiger will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 12:30 p.m. at the Salem High School Auditorium, 1200 E. 6th St., Salem, OH 44460 (Please use the F.E. Cope Drive entrance of the school parking lot).

The impact Jason made and the love he shared will echo forever in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed.
