SALEM — Olga Dimko, 96, passed away on December 18th with her loving family at her side.

Olga was born on Feb. 12, 1929, in Lansford, Pa. the youngest of four Italian sisters born to Joseph and Enrichetta Equizi.

She moved to Salem at the age of 6 and graduated from Salem High School in 1946. Shortly after graduation she married Joeseph Dimko from Leetonia. Joe, the one and only love of her life, passed away in 1979. Out of our sadness today we take comfort in knowing that mom and dad are now happily reunited and together once again. Also proceeding her in death were her sisters, Lena Pastorelli, Virginia Ciotti, and Mamie Molina.

Leaving to mourn Olga are her daughters, Linda Chamberlain of Salem and Christine Thomas of Akron; grandchildren, Rich Thomas (Tesia) of California, Melissa Thomas Yost (Sean) of Akron, and Joe Chamberlain of Salem.

Grandma O-O will also be missed by her great-grandchildren, Jacob (Hailey), Annabelle, Kyle and Emma Yost, Hattie and Halle Smith, Taylor Thomas; and her great-great grandchildren, Saylor, Jude and Elijah Yost.

Olga’s extended family also includes Ralph Morris; her sister-in-law Ethel Carlariello; and many nieces and nephews across Ohio. She also leaves behind her good friend, Roseanne Rickman, and the many new friends she made while residing at Brookdale Nursing Center in Salem.

Olga’s family was never surprised when traveling around the country with her, how often she would run into someone she knew from Salem. Mom made many friends during her long and full life, and we were fortunate that her keen memory remained strong well into her golden years.

Many friends still remembered mom from her years working at the front checkout counter at the G.C Murphy Co. on State St., and later as a volunteer at the Salem Community Hospital, where she was honored to be named as Volunteer of the Year. She had a quick wit and could remember names, faces, and places far more often than we could. She was a wonderful mother and a blessing to all her grandchildren and she will be sadly missed by each one of us. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Brookdale who cared for Olga the past four years.

She was a lifetime member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
