SALEM — Thomas L. Covert Sr., 88, of 837 W. Pidgeon Road, Salem, Ohio, died on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025, at Crandall Medical Center from natural causes.
He was born Oct. 29, 1937, in Lewistown, Pa., the son of the late Ralph and Jessie (Wheeler) Covert.
Tom was a lifelong resident of Salem. He was a 1955 graduate of Salem High School. He retired in 2000 from The Salem Label Co. after 33 years as a printer.
He had previously been employed at U.S. Steel, Salem Police Department, U.S. Ceramic Tile and Lisbon Police Department. Tom served with the Ohio National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of the Salem Elks Lodge No. 305 and was a Past Exalted Ruler there.
Tom is survived by his wife Velma (Brinker) Covert, whom he married on March 18, 1967. He is also survived by his son Thomas (Marianne) Covert Jr. of Clarksville, Tenn., and his daughter Jennifer (Bryan) Lippiatt of Beloit, Ohio. He also leaves behind two grandsons, Cameron Covert and Carson Covert of Clarksville, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Emma Covert of Clarksville, Tenn.; and his sister, Diana Richardson of Panama City, Fla. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Tom will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend.
Calling hours for Tom will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, located at 1014 E. State St., Salem, Ohio, where an Elks Service will take place at noon followed by a funeral service.
Burial will take place at Hope Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Salem Honor Guard.
