Joanna Herron

1931-2026

SALEM — Joanna Herron passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Salem, Ohio at the age of 95.

She was born on Feb. 6, 1931, in Salem, Ohio, to the late Paul Stoffer and Mary (Zimmerman) Vignon. After graduating high school, Joanna attended nursing school for a short while, and then worked as a drafts person at the Electric Furnace Company where she met her future husband Donald Herron.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she enjoyed volunteering. Joanna enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, knitting, cooking, and traveling, visiting all 50 states and much of Canada.

Survivors include her son, David (Carol) Herron of Salem; grandchildren, Steven (Svetlana) Herron, Jessica Smith, and Amy Sanor; step-grandchildren, Samantha (Jason Axelson) Nesnidol and Timothy (Mia) Nesnidol; great-grandchildren, Aleksandar and Luka Herron, Brynley and Caylen Smith.

Besides her parents, Joanna was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Donald Herron; daughter Deborah Sanor; infant grandson Jeremy Herron; and stepbrother Ronald Vignon.

Friends and family will be received from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home located at 1014 E. State St. in Salem, Ohio. A funeral service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Joanna will be laid to rest next to her husband at Grandview Cemetery in Salem, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1089 E. State St., Salem, OH 44460.
