John E. Scheel

1955-2026

COLUMBIANA — John E. Scheel, 70, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at his home.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1955, in Salem, son of the late Nels and Elaine Carlisle Scheel.

John worked as a superintendent for Columbiana Foundry Co. for 46 years, it was like a second home to him, and he considered the Nerys a second family. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, and looking for any reason to be on a tractor turning dirt or making hay. John loved his family and he cherished the time he spent with them, his grandchildren meant the world to him, and he enjoyed watching them explore the world. He was positive, friendly and endearing person who would always be happy to help someone when he could.

John is survived by his wife, Carolyn Webber Scheel, whom he married on Sept. 18, 1976; his three sons, Jared (Juli) Scheel of Locust Grove, Va., Evan (Tiffany) Scheel of Columbiana and Aaron (significant other, Taryn) Scheel of Columbiana; five grandchildren, Hadley Scheel, Grant Scheel, Vivienne Scheel, Dillan Scheel and Maycee Scheel; two brothers, Tom (Jennie) and Mark (Kathy); two sisters, Martha (Dana) and Mary (Tony); a brother-in-law, Dale (Marcia) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Lester and Paul; a niece, Mandy Webber; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Omar and Agnes Webber.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m., all at Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home ,Columbiana, with Rev. Bryan Meadows officiating.

Burial will take place at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford.
