CANFIELD — Donald E. Feren, 54, passed away early Saturday morning, Feb. 28, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Boardman, surrounded by his family.
Donald was born on Jan. 19, 1972, in Salem, a son of Donald and Denise (Crum) Feren. A 1990 South Range High School graduate, he would join the staff as a coach and teacher at his alma mater in 2008. He coached football, basketball, and softball; in 2009 he was named head softball coach. In 2015, he became the athletic director and later Dean of Students in 2025. Well-known and loved, he had an influence on many of the students’ lives, as he was their biggest cheerleader. He was inducted in the South Range Hall of Fame in 1996 for his football successes. Don also enjoyed golfing, and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Michigan. He loved to vacation in Florida, trips to Myrtle Beach with the softball team, spending time with his family, and playing with their three family dogs.
Don leaves to cherish his memory his parents; two daughters, Drew and Jamie Feren; his loving companion Lynda Kistler; aunts Sandra Best, Carole Davis, Debbie Feren and Lynda Kale; uncle Lenord Swatzfager, and many loved family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and uncles Dave Best, John Davis, Eddie Feren, and Ricky Feren.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Greenford Christian Church, 11767 Lisbon Road, Greenford, OH 44422.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., before the services at Greenford Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made in Don’s memory to the South Range High School Athletic Department, 11300 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield, OH 44406.
Don’s family would like to express their deep gratitude for the entire South Range community, who has supported Don and his family through this challenging time.
