SALEM -- Nola E. Yerkey, 82, of Salem, passed away on July 29, 2026, at her son Matt's residence, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on Dec. 7, 1943, in Crestline, Ohio, she was the daughter of Roy and Sarah (Clabaugh) McKean. Nola grew up in Crestline and was a graduate of Crestline High School, Class of 1962.
Nola devoted much of her working life to helping others. She was employed at various nursing homes and also worked with the Columbiana County Sheltered Workshop. Her compassion and willingness to serve made a lasting impression on the people around her. She approached her work with patience and a genuine concern for others, and she took pride in being dependable and helpful wherever she was needed.
Faith and fellowship were important parts of Nola's life. She was a longtime member of the former Southeast Friends Church in Salem, where she found friendship, community, and support over the years. Her life reflected the quiet strength and consistency that often define a faithful heart, and she valued the relationships she built throughout the Salem community.
Nola enjoyed many simple pleasures that brought her happiness. She loved spending time at Lake Erie at Gem Beach and found joy in the beauty of the outdoors. She enjoyed walking, being outside, and taking in the world around her. She enjoyed being with her friends and coworkers on Fairview Ave. At home, she liked word games, especially Scrabble, and she was an avid reader who appreciated a good book. She was also very social and treasured the time she spent with her friends on Fairview Avenue. In later years, she became a devoted Ohio State football fan and enjoyed cheering on the Buckeyes.
She is survived by her two sons, Matthew Yerkey and his wife Wanda of Salem, and Martin Yerkey and his wife Denise of Marysville, Ohio. She also leaves behind her brother, Thomas McKean and his wife Becky of Crestline, Ohio, her beloved grandchildren, Sarah Parmenter and her husband Justin, Ryan Yerkey, Avery Yerkey, Burma Yerkey, Briar Yerkey, and Mckenna Yerkey; and two great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Emma Parmenter.
In addition to her parents, Nola was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Yerkey, and her grandson, Ethan Blair Yerkey. She was also preceded in death by her former husband and friend, William David Yerkey.
Friends and family will be received at Stark Memorial on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Grandview Cemetery Chapel on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at 11 a.m.
