Edward O. ‘Ed’ Toot

1934-2026

Edward O. "Ed" Toot, 91, of Salem, passed away at Salem Regional Medical Center in Salem on Aug. 19, 2026. He was born on Nov. 16, 1934 in New Albany, Ohio.

He graduated from Greenford High School in 1953. After high school, Edward served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960.

He married Virginia Lisi on Oct. 15, 1960.

After military service, Edward spent 36 years working for Kaiser Refractories and National Refractories before he retired in 1998.

Edward was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem, where he served as an usher and the sang in the memorial choir. He was also a lifetime member of the Salem Italian American Club.

He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Virginia; daughter, Christina Thompson (Fred); sister, Patricia Wilms; three grandchildren, Andy Thompson (Kristyn), Alison Thompson and Jacob Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Aurora Thompson, Andrew Thompson, Kelsey Thompson, and MacKenzie Thompson.

Edward is preceded in death by his father, Russell Toot; mother, Edna Luxeuil Toot; sons, Robert Toot and Ronald Toot; brother, Richard Toot (Jill), and sister, Phyllis Toot Delmont (Tony).

Calling hours for Edward will be Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, in Salem, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem at 11 a.m. with Reverend Fritz Schlueter officiating and Reverend Robert Edwards concelebrating.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting all donations be made to Community Care Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
