Norman L. Uptegraph

1945-2026

SALEM -- Norman L. Uptegraph, 80, died July 27, 2026, at Salem Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1945, in Freeport, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Norman E. and Mildred (Kutsch) Uptegraph. He was a 1964 graduate of Salem High School and remained proud of his Salem roots throughout the years.

Following high school, Norm served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a proud veteran and a member of the American Legion in Columbiana. Norm worked as a machinist for 26 years at NRM Corporation and also worked as a house painter.

In his leisure time, Norm enjoyed following Salem High School sporting events and attending games whenever he could. He was a familiar and enthusiastic supporter of the Quakers and took great pride in the accomplishments of local student-athletes. In 2024, he was honored with the Charles R. Mattevi Citizen Athletic Award, which recognizes the contributions of a citizen who demonstrates enthusiasm and support of Salem High School Basketball.

Norm is survived by his son, Shawn Uptegraph; daughter, Lisa (Eddie) Hill; brother, Richard (Nancy) Uptegraph; grandchildren, Shauna Uptegraph, Bethany Uptegraph, Cassandra (Gregory) Ebie, Cristopher Rivera, Connor Hill, and Cara Hill; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Danika, Delaney, Jeremiah, Jade, Alexis, and Ryan.

In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, the former Shirley Thompson, on June 13, 2013.

Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., where a memorial service will follow at noon. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery with military honors to be rendered.
