SALEM -- Allan M. Wolfgang, 84, passed away on Sept. 19, 2026, under hospice care at Windsor House of Canfield.
Born on July 27, 1942, in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, he was the only child of the late Marvin and Evelyn (Armstrong) Wolfgang. Allan grew up with a strong work ethic, a kind spirit, and a determination to make the most of every opportunity. He carried those values throughout his life and shared them generously with the people who knew and loved him.
Allan was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School, Class of 1960. On July 14, 1962, he married the former Bonnie L. Robinson, and together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Their life together was built on devotion, hard work, and mutual support, and Allan considered his family to be his greatest blessing. He and Bonnie created a home filled with love, stability, and lasting memories.
As a young man, Allan began his career working in a brickyard and later served as a machine shop foreman for The Heppenstall Company in New Brighton. Always eager to better himself, he accepted a lead supervisor position with Turner Machine, which brought the family to Salem, Ohio. While working full-time and raising his family, Allan attended Kent State University, Salem Campus, for two years, showing the same commitment to learning that guided every part of his life. He later became plant manager at Electric Furnace in Salem, where he worked for two decades, and eventually retired as plant manager for SES in Alliance after 20 years of service with the company.
In retirement, Allan remained active and continued to serve others. He was proud to serve his community as the Perry Township Zoning Commissioner for several years. He was also a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem, where his faith was an important part of his life. Allan took part in Bible Study, volunteered with the Wednesday Kids Club, and gave his time and talents to the upkeep and improvement of the church property. He was the kind of man who could fix nearly anything, and he never hesitated to lend a hand to help someone with a project or a problem.
Allan found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially during the summer months. He enjoyed spending time boating and fishing at local lakes with his son and grandsons. From an early age, he developed a love for flowers and gardening while helping at his parents' family business, Marvin's Flower Shop. He continued that interest throughout his life by tending vegetable and flower gardens, with a special fondness for his dahlia garden. He was a member of the Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society, and was always eager to share his beautiful flowers. He also competed at the Canfield Fair, where he won numerous blue ribbons over the years. He also enjoyed woodworking and made Adirondack chairs, swings, and rocking horses that became cherished gifts for family members. He also looked forward to taking his "Pride and Joy" 1946 Chevy truck to area car shows.
Above all else, Allan was a devoted and loving husband, dad, and Papa. He was a true family man who took great pride in providing for and caring for those he loved. He was honest, hardworking, and friendly, and he had a way of making people feel comfortable and valued. He will be remembered with gratitude for the example he set, the work he accomplished, and the many ways he enriched the lives of those around him.
Allan leaves behind a legacy of faith, dedication, and love that will continue to live on through his wife, Bonnie; children, Mark (Colleen Kane) Wolfgang of Canfield and Lisa (David) Withers of Salem; grandchildren, Dana Wolfgang, Samantha (Mike) Hughes, and Hunter (Chloe) Withers, all of Salem; and great-grandchildren, Christian Wolfgang, and Avery and Parker Hughes.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., Salem, and again on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 251 S. Broadway Ave., Salem, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jeremy Hollingshead officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
