SALEM -- David Allen Mowery, known to everyone as Dave, passed away suddenly Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, leaving behind a family who meant everything to him. A devoted husband, father, papa, son, and brother, Dave will be remembered for his loyalty, loving heart, infectious smile, and the humor he brought to everyday moments.
Dave showed his love by always being there. From cheering on his daughters at their sporting events to doing the same for his grandchildren, he never stopped showing up with pride. He lovingly cared for his mother and somehow always seemed to have an answer to any question. Whenever something needed fixing or someone needed a hand, Dave was just a phone call away.
Whether cheering from the stands or playing with his grandchildren, Dave treasured time with his family. To his grandchildren, Papa was a superhero -- the person who could fix anything, make them laugh, and always be there when they needed him. There was never a day they didn't ask to go to Gigi and Papa's house, and no visit was complete without a buggy ride to see the ponies. Through these simple, everyday acts of love, he made sure his family knew they could depend on him.
A proud fan of the Western Reserve Blue Devils and Ohio State Buckeyes, Dave loved cheering on his teams, but nothing brought him more joy than his family. His presence made ordinary days special, and his laughter and smile will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Dave will be greeted in Heaven by his father, Clarence Mowery; his brother, Stephen Mowery; his mother-in-law, Ruth Myers; and his sister-in-law, Janie Mowery.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Myers Mowery; his mother, Martha Kirkpatrick; his father-in-law, David Myers; his brothers, William Mowery (Peggy Wegner), James Mowery (Patricia), and Robert Mowery (Julie); his daughters, McKenzie Christie (Trent), Kailyn Zatchok (Jeffrey), and Hannah Gregg (Sean); and his cherished grandchildren, Beckham Zatchok, Palmer Zatchok, Brady Christie, Baker Christie, and JD Gregg.
Dave leaves a legacy of showing up, loving deeply, and caring for the people who mattered most to him. His family will carry that love with them always.
Dave would want everyone to celebrate his life with a smile and to remember the laughter, love, and happiness he brought to so many people. He answered to many names: Dad, Daddio, Papa, and Uncle Dave, and each one represented a role he treasured deeply. Dave cherished all of his nieces and nephews and loved each of them as his own. He shared an especially close bond with his nephew, Matt, who was much more like a son to him. To so many, Uncle Dave was simply everyone's favorite person, the one who could make you laugh, make you feel welcome, and always make sure you knew how much you were loved.
As his family and friends remember Dave, they hope everyone carries with them one thing above all else: always know how much he loved you. His family was his greatest joy, and the love he had for each person in his life will live on forever.
Friends and family will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, at the funeral home with Rev. Russell Libb officiating.
To honor Dave's legacy and commitment to his community, memorial contributions may be made to the BEAB Hall of Fame at Western Reserve Local Schools, 13850 W. Akron-Canfield Road, Berlin Center, Ohio 44401.
